Well I managed to find a vet near my house that sells Harrison's. I am so excited!! I picked up a bag today with the thoughts that it would take a while to get her to eat the new food... to my surprise... PRISSY LOVES HARRISON'S!!!! She gobbled it right up :21: Thanks to everyone who recommended this food. Getting her to eat a good diet has been a work in progress!!!:rainbow1:

Congratulations, Chelle! I am transitioning my sun conure to Harrison's soon. I hope he takes to it like Prissy. May I ask what kind of Harrison's you are giving her? Adult Coarse or Fine?

Congrats! That's how Lukah was with Roudybush... Instantly in love!

Thanks!!! She is on the High Potency Fine :rainbow1:

On their website it says not to supplement that much?

I got a one year old conure that we use to feed parrot mix too only. I than started to switch up to more greens and fruits. He is not eating the greens or fruit. We have started to let that be the only thing in his cage for the most part. We give him hardly any seeds now.

With this mix would I only feed him this and only use fruit and sweet potato's as a treat type deal?

He does love the Honey seed sticks, and I don't give him one that often. I don't want to cut that out completely because I know it's something he looks forward too when I do give it too him.

I think with the 'suppliment' type thing, is meaning the additional tonics and powders you can add to their food (Vit XYZ) isn't needed as much with pellets like Harrissons. However, fresh fruits and veggies won't do any harm if you want to feed them alongside, but they should have 'everything they need' from the pellets. That's what I've gathered anyway, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! :)

Hey Baron!! If your guy isn't eating his veggies, you could try making a mash! I did and I swear by it :) I took jalepeno, raspberries, apples (his favorite), kale, carrot (which he would never eat plain!) and put them all into my food processor till they were little bite-size pieces. You could substitute the fruits I used for whatever his favorites are! If you put quite a bit of the fruit in, it will flavor all the veggies slightly like them and then he might eat them more. I put all the mash into ice cube trays and froze them (I can post a picture if you want!) with tin foil over the top of the tray. I also made him a mix of lentils, garbanzo beans and quinoa pasta (no food processor for that one!). Each morning I take one cube out of the tray, stick it in the microwave for 10 seconds and then put it in his cage (in a separate bowl from his pellets). I also have Roudybush pellets available for him at all times. And water :) He was wary of the new food at first but now he loves his mash! He eats it all up (even though the first day he only picked at it a tiny bit).

Also, I would avoid giving him seeds and only give pellets (though some people might say differently!) With pellets and the mash mixes, you shouldn't need any added supplements. Though I have a calcium chew in there just incase Lukah feels like chewing it... and cause it's cute! haha I also have a foraging toy inside his cage that is stuffed with almonds. He LOVES almonds, but then at least he has to work for them! I picked almonds because after looking up different kinds of nuts, those seemed like they would benefit him the most. He also loves walnuts and millet, but I give him those as treats. :)

I got three calcium chews for him to chew on. I think I will order this food and see if he likes it. The good thing is while it's expensive at least it last a long time.

Our schedule is so messed up it's hard for us to keep up with the fruit and veggie schedule. We are doing out best, but for the seeds we allow for free feeding. I don't put much in each day and I always replace with fresh food.

With this food it seems like it would suit our needs perfectly and still allow us to feed him his favorite fruit. He loves black berries and eats them all day long if we would let him. Than his poop looks like he is dieing after eating one. LOL

hahah! Lukah's looks like that after blueberries (another of his favorites!) He loves blackberries but they are so messy and dye his feathers so I stopped giving them to him! But I hear you about the busy schedule! I was work 50 + work weeks all summer and that's why the mash worked perfectly! Just take one night to make it, put it into ice cube trays and... walah! fruits and veggies for 16 + days and all I have to do is pop it in the microwave for ten seconds in the mornings!

Wow, never thought about that!! Thanks!

Chipper, my 6 month old GCC just made the switch to Harrison's yesterday. Luckily I live in the city and have a bird shop near by that I was able to purchase a 1lb bag from. I started feeding it to Chipper as soon as we got in the car to go home. He is grinding it up a bit but still eating 75% of the pellet or more so I can live with that. I am so happy he didn't make a fuss about switching from the crappy seed diet the pet store had him on.

Prissy grinds hers up too but then she eats it all. She loves her new food and she is gaining weight!! I am so excited that she is getting good nutrition. AND since she started she has new tail feathers coming in... I don't know if this is just a coincidence or not. She had lost all but 3 of her tail feathers when I got her and lost 2 more after I brought her home so she is down to just one. She has a lot of new feathers coming in now. I am so excited to see what she looks like when they have all grown in :rainbow1:

This may be a noob questions, but what makes Harrison's bird food so great?

I like it because the ingredients are 100% organic, there are no GMO ingredients. The fresh fruits and veggies I feed are also organic. If for some reason they are not organic, like an apple, banana, etc., I will remove the skin. That is what is important to me.
