I was looking into getting a hahns baby before adopting our lca. From what I learned, they would work well in a family, have the ability to talk well and don't bond with only one person. Of course every bird is different but as a general rule, as long as you are confident with a hahns (big attitude, little bird) then it should love, respect the whole family. I think they are great little birds. I spoke with several owners and they couldn't stop raving about their birds!

My Hahns is a one bird person pretty much. I think he's a "He" but i'm not sure of the sex actually. Some day I'll have it checked at the vet.

He likes older males (as in 40+ yrs of age). He doesnt seem to like women at all, even my wife who has tried so hard to get to know him. He likes her to be home and to talk to her and all that, but if she tries to get him to step-up he's like a rattlesnake to her (and most anyone except me really). He spent the first year of his life at a Petco, so this might be part of his problem, but to me he's a love bug and my best buddy since they day i got him.

Now back to males 40+ yrs of age... With about half a dozen different guys in this age group whom Birdie has met he just steps up onto their finger as if he's an old friend and sits there all content and relaxed (he'd never met them before that moment). But as I said this is rare and he usually bites anyone who tries to get him to step-up. Any opinions on this? I'm new to birds, having had my conure and Hahns for about 3 yrs, but a novice otherwise. Thanks!

I have a 16 year old Noble Macaw that I had since he was 2 and half months old. This bird did EVERYTHING with me. I took him to a lot of places and this socialized him very well. Anyone can walk up to his cage and ask "Wanna come out?" and my bird will say "Out" then they can open cage, stick their hand in there and the little parrot will jump onto it.

He is not cage aggressive nor is he a one person bird. The noble macaw is considered a sub species of the Hahn's macaw. My bird is a bit bigger with a horn colored upper beak. He is not nippy but is very very friendly and to non bird people this can be intimidating to them as he does not seem to recognize if someone is afraid of him.

I will try to attach a pic of him. His name is Mihijo and he was DNA sexed at 4 months old.

Mihijo with Joaquin in 2001. Joaquin died in Dec of 2005. This is so you can see the size difference. Joaquin was a Solomon Island Eclectus
