Hahns Macaw Stories/information

Hi there everyone. I am a proud owner of my very first Hahns Macaw. I just got him about a month ago and he's a wonderful little bird! Odin is his name and he's about 5 months old. I was just hoping to hear some funny/interesting stories from other Hahns Macaw owners. My little Odin is quite the bird, he loves his Mommy and screams at me when I have to go to work, it makes me feel terrible. I don't have any interesting stories about Odin at the moment but I'm sure I will soon Also have any of you Hahns owners had issues with biting? Odin seems to have a issue with biting when you tell him NO. I'm assuming this is somewhat normal, but any advice would be appreciated. Any advice you could give me on training him to do some tricks would be appreciated as well. Thanks for your time.

(I have done lots of research on Hahns Macaws before and after I got him, but it is always nice to hear it from a Hahns owner. Thanks again!)

I got my little Hahn's a month ago too! Her name is Kiwi. I don't really have any stories about her yet, but she was born on April Fools Day!!!!

Aww that's cute. I believe my little boy was born on April 14th. So they are really close to the same age. Like I said I don't have any interesting stories yet either. He's a very mellow little guy, he loves to chew on the couch then look at me like he did nothing wrong when I tell him no no lol. Don't you just love the noises they make? I think adorable personally Keep in touch, it would be nice to hear how you and Kiwi are doing!

My Hahn's is a little over 3 yrs old now. I've had him (at least I think it's a Him) since March 2010 and he's quite a character. He goes with me almost everywhere (on errands, car/vacation trips, etc) and when I'm home he's perched on my shoulder nearly all day long from morning til nite. He eats whatever I eat and is my best buddy.

He does nip frequently, but nothing bad, just little pinches which I discourage with a "no" each time. I've had a couple conures over the past couple years also but am basically new to birds. I never knew before how much fun they are and what great companions. My Hahn's was a year and a half old when I got him, but he took to me right away. He doesnt like other people at all generally, especially females for some reason. The only people he takes to for some strange reason is white males aged 40 and older (???), with males of that age or older he just hops on their finger and sits like a little friend. Anyone else he strikes at like a rattlesnake (including younger males). Can anyone explain that one?

So he's quirky about who he likes as far as contact but he does talk to people when I'm out and about on errands, saying Hi and Bye when I arrive or leave a place. He loves to ride in the car also. He hates when I talk on the phone! Everytime he hears the phone ring he say's "Hello", or sometimes says "hello" even when I just pick up the phone, lol.

He naps on my shoulder in my recliner when I doze off watching TV, but I never bring him to bed with me as I'm terrified of rolling over onto him in my sleep.

He doesn't fuss too much, unless I've put him in his cage for too long, which is rare, but sometimes I just have to put him in there when I'm doing something I can't do with him. He sits on the shower curtain rod when I take a shower too

I keep his wings clipped so I don't lose him when out running errands. He never ever tries to leave me (in fact he hates when I set him on a table and go accross the room even), but if he ever got spooked and flew in response to a loud noise I worry he might get caught up in a gust of wind and carried off or something dreadful like that.

My little guys name is Nico his birthday is June 2, 2011 we have had him since he was about 6 weeks old he is now almost three months and today I swear I say Nico Nico and he looked at me and said what and I just laughed he says what everytime I call him he is a little lovebug he will go to me, my husband and my two girls who are 18 and 20 but if there friends come in and want to hold him he wont have it he loves to lay on his back and play with a ball they are just wonderful little birds I wouldn't have any other one we love him and he fits our family perfect and like the others he does nip sometimes but its all part of him
