I had heard that there is some hope that Cuba may have seen an influx of Island Amazons along the Southern side of that Island Nation. As with everything the sightings are unconfirmed at this time.

You'd think after evolving on these islands for millennia, they'd have some mechanism of survival from big storms and possibly even some means of predicting them/leaving beforehand. Hurricanes aren't new to these islands. Hopefully they are simply enjoying a "vacation" in Cuba and will return home soon!

Several different things happening this year that has up-set the millennia plan. This year, although not as active as predicted, saw much stronger Hurricanes commonly believed to have been feed by weaker steering currents and warmer waters. This combination resulted in Storms developing to Hurricane status earlier and traveling much slower than normal.

The normal Hurricane remains a tropical storm east of Cuba and as they come into the Gulf and /or Gulf Stream build to Hurricane status. What that all means is the vast majority of Island Nations and Territories see the effects of Tropical Storms or Cat 1 and 2 Hurricanes that travel along their path quicker. The on Island time is much less and so is the damage. The Parrots simply hunker down for a few hours go on with their lives.

This year, the storms that built to Cat 3 levels and than to Cat 4 and 5 storms before Cuba and traveled very slowly placing very high winds and heavy rains for a half day or longer. Shelters that had survived for years crumbed in the face of these storms.

The Parrots evolving on these islands for millennia had not developed a skill set that took this type of storm into consideration.

Oh THOSE Amazons. As a resident of the Seattle area, sometimes my first thought is the .com Amazons-the ones who have driven housing prices up again. I was hoping THEY were all migrating to Cuba. Oh well. Good news about the birdies. [emoji23]❤️
