Rest in Peace Rio
I heard from the rescue today! She's working on setting up the flight for Pepper! She said she's hopes for her to be ready to go in the next couple of weeks! I've had this cage for a while, I bought it as soon as she told me to go ahead. (plus it was in stock and a good price). I just put it together tonight, and wanted to share a picture. It doesn't have any perches or toys in it yet, I wanted to make absolutely certain she was giving us Pepper before I ordered anything else, just in case I needed to return it. I may need to take some avicalm over the next couple of weeks! lol

That is a gorgeous looking cage! I'm very happy & excited for you! Can't wait to hear flight plans!

That's a very nice cage!!! I hope everything goes well cause Pepper is gonna love that cage!!!! :)

I'm excited for you. Let me know if the Avicalm works & I may stock up on a gallon of it. Not sure if you have a Big Lots around, but my local one has a huge stock of parrot toys for $2 - $5 dollars. Big ones with leather to tear, etc. I even got a pinata that you stuff with treats that hangs. It's big & was only $3.

I could have used something calming yesterday while waiting at the airport for Merlin. Her plane landed at 2:53, but it was more than an hour before they brought her to the holding area for me to pick her up. I was expecting more like a half hour wait. I started feeling panicky that something was wrong. But, it seemed like they waited until other animals were taken off of other planes to bring them all together. Someone else was waiting on a bird, and another on a cat, and we were all at the point of pacing after sitting and waiting for a long time. Finally I saw carriers coming in, and I said, "Animals!" and everyone came running to look. The cat woman kept saying, "Can you see a cat? Can you see a cat?"

I have gotten some really nice and cheap toys at big lots in the past. I was there today, and they only have one toy that I didn't like. I check everytime I'm in there to see if they've gotten anything new. I even bought River a swing there once.

I'm sure I'm going to be a basket case at the airport when the day arrives!

We have a Big Lots here & I never go. I'll have to check it out!!

Never would have thought about Big Lots as a toy source! I will have to look next time I am in there.

That is a really nice cage :) can't wait to see pics of Pepper :)

No one has prepared more both mentally and physically for Pepper's arrival. She is going to be so loved and cared for in your home. Please remember to have your camera with you on pick up because we all want to see the action. I cannot wait myself. Love the cage.

I didn't think to bring a camera with me to the airport. Both myself and her previous owners were nervous about how the whole shipping ordeal would go for her. When she was finally in front of me, I had to call them right away because they were also worried about what was taking so long. Then I immediately wanted to get her into my truck and begin the drive home. I was racing the sunlight clock, lol! I didn't want to have to bring her into a dark house when she didn't know me or the other birds or cat.

Yeah, I can't wait either. I'm feelin about as giddy as a school girl on prom night. That is a nice cage. That bird is going to be sooooo spoiled.

We have a Big Lots here as well and yep, they started selling bird toys. But you have to get there right after they stock the shelf because if you wait a couple of days and then go back, they will be sold out.

For us, the only two stores that sell good bird supplies in our County is a Pet Supermarket which is about 4 miles from me and a Petsmart which is newly opened at the Mall, which is about 15 miles from me. The only other choices are on line or drive 40 miles to Orlando, which has quite a few Pet shops.

I do a lot of ordering online from Dr. Fosters and Ebay. I can't beat the prices that I find on ebay locally even after factoring in shipping cost. So when I can get some nice quality toys at a good price from Big Lots, I snatch them up.

I will have to check my Big Lots. I've never seen them there, but I also don't go in all that often. Last time I stocked up on blankets though to use for cage covers (or people). They had a ton of large blankets for $5 each. My Nanday chews holes in them so they don't last her all that long.

I have locally Pet Supplies Plus, Petco and Petsmart. But, I also buy toys off ebay.

I was on you tube yesterday and put in pepper african grey and it came up with a very very tiny cage with a congo inside talking. I made a few comments about the size of the cage. It was barely big enough for a parakeet. It made me wonder if this is the bird you are getting.

Could possibly have been Pepper's original owner? From what I know of where she came from, I wouldn't be surprised. Her previous owners weren't very nice to her. :(

The woman at the rescue said her greys are in 36 inch cages. :) The name "Pepper" is 3rd on that names list for greys too.

I placed a big order today for Pepper! I have all kinds of perches, food, toys, etc coming for one very spoiled Grey! (couldn't resist the new palm curl things for River too) My credit card is crying in pain, but it will get over it eventually lol. I can hardly wait for all her things to come to get her cage all ready for her! :)

Here is the vodeo RM. There are very few greys on youtube with the name Pepper. Take a look at the cage size: I do not even see any toys and the light is sure not getting to the bird with that rag over the cage.
