Budgies!
Hi all,

This may be a silly question, but I know budgies are very sensitive to smells. I'm wondering if they could have be sensitive to having fresh greenery around at Christmas, that puts out those strong smells? Even though they wouldn't have access to chewing on it, it does produce a strong scent in the room, so I wanted to double check.

Thanks!
Marsha

We have a fresh-cut Fir tree in the house every Christmas and have even had the budgies land on it once or twice ( not that they were supposed to, but…). The scent of the fresh pine never seems to have caused any kind of concern. 🌲

I would say not a problem. It's not the scents of things that harm them, it's the chemicals that make the scents. Budgies aren't bothered by scents, even very bad smelling bathroom scents. Budgies are not sensitive to natural scents unless it's a toxic natural scent, only chemical scents. In the wild, they perch on and chew on eucalyptus trees which are very scented. Pine scent would be perfectly fine. Wild birds smell it all the time. Air fresheners, plug-ins etc are not considered bird safe.
