Fractured Spine

Loved reading your update! It gave me goosebumps all over again. You truly are a remarkable parront. KUDOS to you, and gentle scritches for Ri. :)

Thanks Amanda - he's amazing and I can't put into words just how much I love that little guy.

Fifteen pages of thread is symbolic of how much you love Ri and how deeply you both are admired and respected!!

Hope Ri settles into a pain-free state of "new normalcy."

Thanks Scott - but you underestimate just how much everyone else has helped me and Ri. :)

Ri is one tough cookie too.

Thanks Taw - he sure is. He's had a couple of tantrums today because I wouldn't let him do what he wanted. Made me smile.

This is one of two serious things I've said today, and one of those was a PM. I'm very blessed by your devotion, love, and compassion.

How has he been doing? I imagine well since we haven't heard anything bad for a few weeks now! Has he had any really good improvements???? I am thinking of you both!!

Hi and thank you. :) I was going to update but didn't want to keep bumping my own thread up.

He is driving me crazy - so all is well. Though I'm still trying to not let him do too much but I think he's enjoying my reaction, as has been tormenting me with his acrobatics. The only problem he has had is the other day - he did a perfect head over heels (I didn't get to him in time to stop him) and then yelled and ran up under my chin, like he does if he's scared or hurt. I think he must have had a twinge in his back. I keep trying to tell him to let it heal, or we'll be back at square one but he's a little horror. I debated whether to start his pain meds again but decided not to, in case they make him think he can do even more than he's meant to. He was fine after a cuddle.

So, he's still off all meds and I'm nebulising him every other day - just to be on the safe side. His breathing is still a little laboured at times - but I think this will always be this way now, being as his insides are pushed over a little. Same goes for his crooked back. He's eating well and is determined to be more independent and only having cuddles on his terms. I've had a couple of bites when he decides he doesn't want to do something - and he's being very cheeky with me and blowing raspberries on my face and laughing. He's tormenting the dog again. And he's back to dancing as much as he can. He's a little grumpy at the moment, as is going through a moult - but he allows me to get those pin feathers. He lowers his head and tells me to "come on". I do have my uses. ;)

I'm still watching him closely and am still ultra paranoid - but am so grateful he is still here with me and thankful for everyone who has supported me.

Wow that's really great, I am amazed at his recovery, and he is bouncing back pretty quick for a problem that major. I do understand the issue of him having this permanent disability for life now, so hopefully once he heals and the pain stops he will obviously be able to figure out his body and how to manage, just like he's doing now but minus the pain, and then plus more activity. I'm glad he's doing so much better and I hope things continue as they are!

Thank you both. I'm amazed at how well he is doing - he's my little miracle.

Right now, he is yelling at me because I'm not cooking his dinner fast enough. He knows he's back to being boss in the house.

I'm still freaking out about every little thing - every sneeze (central heating) and every movement he's making which he shouldn't be - but hopefully I will start to relax in a year or two. ;)

Well it sounds like The Can Opener is at 99%, lol. Great news!

So glad to hear he is recovering so well! Love that he is yelling at you for not cooking fast enough! Zilla also thinks meals should take no more than 30 seconds to make!

Thanks Taw - he's definitely back in "can opener" mode.

Amanda - yep, they really do think dinner should be instant. Most days I spend ages cooking a healthy, home cooked dinner for Ri and my dog - and then I just end up with a sandwich. :D

Luckily most of the time Zilla can have some of what I'm eating, or I can have some of what she is getting...LOL Somehow it works for us and neither of us is starving (don't ask her, she thinks she is always starving!)

In my experience, tramadol works better than metacam for severe pain control, although metacam does have anti-inflammatory properties. metacam v.s. tramadol is similar to advil v.s. vicodin. talk to your vet about a possible switch over. It might help Ri sleep and function a little better. :)

Thank you. Ri is off all pain meds now (and all other meds too). :)
