Foraging Toy for Macaw

my moms eckkie has one,he never did figure it out:p

I've always seen those more as too toys and CAG toys than big mac toys.

Big Macs, or at least the ones I've played with are more into the big chew toys, and things they can swing on/hang from.

Your money would probably be better spent on wood chew toys.

As for forraging toys, just get mixed nuts, drill a hole through the center, and string them up. It's a cheap, easy forraging toy.

I got one for my yellow sided conure even though its WAY too big for him.. it was clearance at Petsmart and was 2.99 :D so I figured why not. He gets the concept, EXCEPT he moves my fingers to where they need to go to make the sunflower seeds fall...lol .. but its too big for him.

Great Idea thanks I have a lot of wood chew items hanging but never thought about the nuts. Someone suggested wooden spoons I will also try that but love the nut idea and great time of year for sales on them :)

Yeah, I generally just get a bag of walnuts and drill them through the center (not along the seam, or it will crack them.)

Walnuts.

Nature's foraging toy.

Birdman's idea: One nearly free egg carton with nuts and bits of wadded paper inside versus $350 or more worth of bird toys/accessories. Egg carton wins by a landslide-that was one happy and excited macaw-pardon the crappy cellphone photo:

That is soooo much fun to see!!! And it will keep their attention for an extended period of time.

Lately we've been doing stuffed soda 12 pack boxes... those have been a huge hit around here. We still do telephone books as well.

We don't eat eggs all that often, so egg cartons are fewer and farther between.

But yeah, if it's going to be a destructo toy, and if a macaw gets frustrated HE WILL TURN IT INTO A DESTRUCTO TOY - go cheap. No one cares if the garbage gets turned into tinier bits of garbage before it's thrown away...

And it keeps them entertained for little or nothing!

TUSK dances at the sight of a soda box these days...

soda box . Great Idea. Will try that this weekend

I stuff those with paper, food, broken toy parts, tree branches from the yard, junk mail, and what ever else is handy that isn't toxic and looks like it will entertain them. I try and mix it up so it's not the same stuff every time... it holds their interest longer.

I may be broke, but I can make really cool bird toys out of nothing!

I have one of those toys for my Scarlet. She loves it, but she is a big fan of puzzle toys.
