for the life of me I cannot figure people out!

....ok....I feel a rant coming on...which I rarely do on here

I'm in the process of selling my red rump parakeets breeding pair. I would like to make room so I can start breeding senegals, in the near future.

I've had lots of responses to my ads, but some people leave me #'s to call them.

the 1st person I had to call, answered in some inaudible tone....I explain why I am calling,speaking clearly and slowly so they could understand me...the person mumbles something and hangs up, just like that.

....ok.....here we go....so I call back, and little hot under the caller due to him hanging up.....but giving him the benefit of the doubt....just barely.

.....no answer......how can that be?...you just ANSWERED the phone 30 seconds ago.....and he didn't sound half asleep either.

he calls back 10 minutes later, he had a very thick accent and was really hard to understand. he apologized, and honestly that is all I could understand from what he said.....and I did not call back.


I've had people hang up on me 3 times.

one guy wanted me to meet him at a subway station in downtown Toronto, and when I said it was too far, he got huffy and hung up on me.....why do people do that??!!...it's so RUDE.

it clearly states in my ad-- price is FIRM, yet people still make offers.
No Delivery- they want me to deliver....some 2 hours away!

another guy I spoke to asks me "what birds do you have for sale?"
...my response was...."you tell me?"....obviously he is surfing for birds and has put out many calls, and can't keep track of who has what.

I really hate being so blunt with people. I was raised by the golden rule, but it makes my blood boil when they are like this...imagine how they are going to treat the birds!

the good news is, I am spending about 1 1/2 hours on the road tomorrow(there and back) to deliver these pair of birds....and I will be so glad when this is all over.

Wow...I have no words. What are people thinking?
Do they want you to give them to them for free, deliver them and come to feed them every day? Maybe clean their cage a few times a week?
What is up with them wanting you to meet them at a subway stop???
I don't get it.
Thankfully it sounds like you have found them a home, but you still have to deliver them?

maybe they're having a phone tantrum....I want-what I want-when I want it....and when they can't get it, they hang up!.....

even though I said NO delivery, the guy I am meeting tomorrow would have a 2 hour drive up to my house....he then asked me if I was willing to meet him 1/2....so I said sure.

I have found that people 'hide' behind the phone and/or computer. They'd never be. So rude face to face but think it is ok on the phone because the person on the. Other side doesn't know them. Very irritating!

I feel your pain!! I come across all my pets/cages from craigslist, and I've just learned not to give a second thought to someone who ignores the obvious or for whatever reason cannot meet me somewhere reasonable. Best way to stay out of sketchy situations(Especially being a young girl.. I always bring one or two guys with me!! Hehe.)
I'm glad you found someone suitable though- It's a hassle for sure. So many people see the word "breeder" and think "money." so they don't even care- they just want to get their hands on a bonded pair of "money makers" like it's so easy. Such a shame.

This is the reason why I deal all my business by email first then phone after agreement have been made. It's easier that way so no one gets upset over it.

It makes me feel uncomfortable talking to strangers....especially when it comes to selling birds.
you just never know what type of person is on the other end.
normally I do it thru e-mail, but due to the number of responses I had, I opted to make some calls....apparently to some pretty strange weirdo's.....sheesh!

Selling birds is pretty much the worst XD

When I was selling my black cockatoos (which you need an advanced licence to own in Victoria) I would state clearly that you should NOT make an offer unless you already had your licence.

How many people contacted me about buying them? Tons.
How many had a licence? One.

then he asks me to lower the price.....omg
we agreed on a set price yesterday, now he wants to lower it, he said that is all he had.....

maybe someone is trying to tell me something and keep this pair....

Beth have you ever checked out on Facebook parrots and birds for sale canada and also Canadian bird exchange ....I haven't seen too much of the typical Facebook drama on there.....I joined but haven't been active.....most people on there are from Ontario ....those pages might be worth checking out....

UGH. Thats sounds awful. After looking for birds for years, I saw tons of bad stuff. Its terrible when a person is selling a bird they have "had for years", or whatever, and can't even pronounce the specie's name. Whats worse than even that is when they have the WRONG SPECIES. I have seen so many "Mecaw 4 sell" and it turns out to be a sun conure. Seriously? XD

The Ducorps cockatoo is native to the solomon islands, but I've never heard them be called that. Maybe it's one of the "lesser-known" names.. like how Quaker Parakeets are often called Monk Parakeets in places that they're harder to find, etc.
