Food agression

My new baby Blue Crowned, Roscoe, seems to get nippy only when he is eating treats or getting treats for training. I am not sure if he gets excited with the attention or wanting food causes him to get a bit nippy and ornery. I have only had him for a week, so I completely understand that we need to work through this...just wondering if this is a common behavior and how I should handle it. He is all sweet and loving after he has had his fill so I know it is related with what is going on with food. He doesn't mind being touched while he is eating--it is after he is done and looking for more that he gets ornery. Should I stop offering treats by hand or limit the treats to maybe one. He LOVES cheerios and these seem to get him going the most.. Thanks for the advice!

If you offer treats from between your fingers, you might try offering treats from your palm instead.. or maybe get something like a teaspoon and offer from there so he doesn't have the chance to bite.

I would suspect though, that over time, and as he gets more comfortable with you, the behavior may go away as long as you don't encourage it.
