first vet visit! :)

I love that store so much. It's a store I wish every bird owner/lover go have near them. I could spend an entire months pay in there and still want more. I swear my birds have no idea what to do with half the toys I bring home for them. That's how they stay entertained while I'm out. Kayak is distructive and loves to destroy everything. She loves foraging boxes. Carlisle likes toys with bells. Everything that can stand up to his beak and has a bell makes him happy. The budgies are easy to shop for. Something small, cute, and noisy and they're set. I love that store so much.

I am so glad you had a good vet visit and glad to see that your B &G behaved themself.

I too went to Bird Paradise but left feeling a little beside myself.
I will explain why, I went there with a list of Items I needed for both my boys on my profile picture.
many brands were not carried and the ones they did have were more expensive then what I pay at a local Petstore where I live.
I did buy some Java branches and some treats but wish they would have had better prices.

I went into the room where most of the baby macaws were housed on the trees. I handled the Hybrid Macaws, B&G, Some U2s but was really sad to see that none of the GW were being handled, they approx 5-7. I went over to them and all trying to get away and wanted nothing to do with being handled.
At first I thought, they are very young and most likely very attached to their handler.
I picked up one of the babys and she struggles with me but soon came to terms that I was not going to hurt her and that I knew how to handle her. She slowly gave in and allowed me to pet her for a while.

I handled the HY Macaw who was just a sweetheart and took everything I had not to get out the credit card and take them home with me.

best of luck to all. Joe

hahah you should of just given in and took the hyacinth home! im sure neleno wouldnt of minded hehe ;)

Joe, next time you go, please let me know. Perhaps we could meet up and exchange more bird stories. :)

I go there at least once a month, just for giggles, each time trying REALLY hard to hold on to my $$$.

They are VERY pricey, IMO. The part that gets me is that their online store is SO much cheaper than going there in person.

Tab, PM me your address....perhaps Santa will be good to you, I mean Fargo, this year. ;)

are you allowed to take your birds with you when you go there?

hahah i wish that was the case here.. i want to spend dollars.. after the vet visit yesterday, our town has one pet shop.. so quickly ran in.. and all they had was bird seed and like 5 budgie toys -.- i was like COME ON!!!! :p

why wouldnt the prices be the same as the online store? :/

hahah really :D fargo has been a very very very good boy ;) LOL

I have to agree that they are quite pricy. I like going to see all the birds they have out. They had these tiny looking toucans the one time I went in. It was like a miniature version of toucan Sam lol.

One factor may be that in order for a business to be competitive online, its prices will typically be set much lower than physical retail store prices.

I say we all meet one weekend at BP.
I was so close on bringing that Hy macaw home. American express would have loved me.
I really enjoy holding the baby macaws and other Parrots they have at the store, perhaps this is the reason for the high prices, just to get customers to stop in to see the amazing birds and pick up a few items.
Let me know the next time you go to BP and I will check my schedule to see if I am free to join you. Take care Joe

So Joe, just out of curiosity what was the price tag on that blue guy?

great post, well for those who are new to keeping pet birds, then odds are that you've never visited an avian vet's office. While visiting an avian vet is not really much different from visiting your cat or dog's doctor, there are a few things to keep in mind that can make your bird's first vet visit go more smoothly for all involved. I enjoy reading your post by the way good to hear all went well and that Fargo's good health has been confirmed..

Liverpool vet

I believe they wanted $13,000.00 for him. He was so sweet I would have paid $25,000.00 for him but I'm only allowed 2 birds in my condo so I could not bring him home. Thanks Joe

Tab_xo ~ Fargo is lovely, congrats on the successful Vets visit and clean bill of health. I am super Jealous, I have wanted a macaw ever since I saw my auntie's Scarlet "Pecca" when I was about 7, i am 28 now.... LOL. The breeder I got my Ecky from has just had some B&G's hatch I am so so desperate to say yes and get one. I just don't know if i can raise the $5000 in time for when it is weaned. :( My husband keeps saying we will see what next breeding season brings, which makes me want to wallop him one because he just doesn't understand.
There is a good australian online store that sells great bird stuff My Parrot Shop - Parrot Toys and Parrot Supplies in Australia They deliver really quick too. I have ordered from them a few times. They also sell toy parts so you can make your own toys much cheaper then buying toys from pet stores.

Hey i was wondering how old is he and how big is CARGO's crate?? I bought a crate for mine and she didnt fit because of her Looooooooong tail :(
