After just 2 days of letting him get used to the bathroom, he finally got his shower today!

Started off by having him perch on my right hand while I put my hand under the running water and letting him lick the water from my hand. Worked him closer and closer until the water splashed on his face a bit.

I thought he would get mad, so I put him down just outside the shower stall and low and behold, he made a beeline for the water LOL

I didn't think it would happen so fast so I didn't have a stand made yet. So I guess that is today's project. I had to shut the water off to get him out! But he loved it so much, thank goodness!

That is just great :) ... I am starting to believe ALL b&G's are part duck/ penguin.
Looks like you do not even need a showerperch if he is happy just running around like this.
(I wish mine would)

He is clipped so I would make a low perch and give him the option to be on the ground or on the perch. He was so happy running around and just sitting under the stream of water and squawking away!

CUTE!!!
if drying with blowdryer- call about ptfe/pfoa/teflon

Any thoughts on some kind of warming light while he dries off during the winter?

Mine dry at normal roomtemperature here (20 Celcius)- but only get a shower if the house is completely warmed first.

I blowdried my first grey- he loved it!
(we did not even have teflon in those days- so no worries about that)
because that house was a bit colder ;)
We had a special heatlamp (for baby-pigs) in our downstairs toilet to keep the pipes from freezing in the winter.

Speaking of looking like a penguin...little macaw penguin dozing off on his gym, all puffed up.

No- I would try and find a PTFE/PFOA/Teflon free space-heater and let him dry in a small room.
Many lights and space-heaters contain PTFE/PFOA/Teflon coatings though, so research and call either way- make sure to give them abbreviations and full names of all of these.

Telon has been around since the 40s lol-- just throwing it out there..technically, late 30s.

I did get a reply from Lifesmart.

Our products contain no teflon or PTFE.

They didn't mention PFOA.

Did you specifically ask about PFOA? If so, I would reply to them and ask for clarification as to whether or not it DOES contain PFOA.

I've sent them another email to find out, thanks!! I'll post when they respond.

It is good that they have responded at least--- that means you will probably hear back.

Side note: Any time you get a brand new appliance (esp one that heats up), it is best to run it outside or far from the bird at first, because the factory coats the metal with materials that prevent corrosion etc and these burn off over the first few uses.

Hopefully their responses were honest hehehe. But yes...they did respond within a day or two, so they seem like a good promising company to deal with -- Lifesmart

I keep coming back to this thread-- he looks SO happy.
Great pictures.

I use the sweeter heater, radiant heat panal, can get on Amazon. Many have heard me talking about because it's so wonderful and bird safe. All my birds sit by it after bath's. And you have a beautiful big baby awwww

Thank you....it has been a long year's worth of research and finding the right place to get him. Was the breeder perfect? No. But our baby was well loved and well socialized. We were prepared for lots of bite training but the combination of us knowing what to expect and the baby being so well socialized helped with a smooth transition.

I will have to check that out, thanks!!

Simple reply from Lifesmart with regard to specifically PFOE:

There are no chemicals in our products. We hope this helps.

Should be a go then right?

ugh...that is a really obnoxious reply. I PROMISE there are..There are chemicals in everything...
I would reply again (just out of stubbornness) and explain---If the dang thing is PLASTIC, that is a CHEMICAL!!!! They denied that, which is crazy.
UGHHH....not annoyed at you...Just want to strangle myself over that ridiculous reply...They didn't sell you an organic carrot!!
Call them too.
