Eastern Roselle
Hello all, I got this guy from petland, it's his second day home. We have named him R2D2. He eats and drinks well enough, and calls out boop beep beep occasionally. He has a purple band on his left leg, it has "SK 21 10783 6.0" the 10783 going longways, any idea what that's all about?? The person at the store had no idea about anything so I'm not even sure if it is a male or female.
He's not totally scared but very shy. He comes to the side and cocks his head sideways and seems interested in R2D2 soundboard. Any words of wisdom are welcome and appreciated, I have some chickens outside and have in the past raised guinea fowl and peafowl.

Welcome to the forum! R2D2 is so beautiful, I love Eastern Rosellas colouring.
To know the sex, you'll have to do a DNA test.
I can't help with the band, if you're in the US or Canada the bands can't be traced, and a lot of times the numbers and letters don't mean anything:(

This is a great thread on bonding with your new baby:

Tips for Bonding and Building Trust

Rosellas can be skittish, but that just means it may take a little longer to gain their trust.

I'm so glad you joined us!

A quick look and it seems the purple color band and the 21 match up, does this mean I have a 2 year old? The store person said that they think it's 6-9 months but I'm not sure now.

Wow what a beauty and great name: R2D2 what's that a reference to?
Just kidding!

It's possible, the clerk may have just been guessing at the age.

He seems to be eating only the seeds from the food and tossing all else to the side, I clipped a millet to the side and he seems to like that pretty well, I put banana and apple and lettuce and cashews but he only eats the seeds.
Is that ok or should I get him something special, I didn't see anything specifically for rosella??

What food is he currently on?
My Rosella loved chop. His favourite was carrots, red peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, strawberries and kale, diced very small.

There are a lot of great recipes here for different kinds of chop:

I don't have the bag anymore because I tore the top off wrongly, apparently that's not how the special reseal thing worked on that kind, you had to just peel the cutout, so I've put it in a jar and a baggie. From the treats he only eats the little white cubes. He's eaten a couple pieces of fresh pineapple and some hemp seeds as well.
