Well I finally decided to stick the harness on Onyx. I have yet to see her be actually fearful of many objects and after a few training sessions getting her to stick her head through the harness for bits of pecan I just put it on her. After a bit of a struggle getting it adjusted and tight enough (it did end up a little twisted in the belly strap somehow, but the security wasn't compromised so we went outside rather than fussing)
The first thing she did was stare up at the sky and wolf whistle, I started by walking around the yard and gauging her comfort level. I let her sit on the dogwood and chew a leaf or two while keeping the little pecan pieces coming.
So I got my bicycle. She was unfazed, so I put her on my shoulder and took a few test turns around the driveway. Then I looped the flight line around my neck to shorten it in case she took a dive and we hit the open road for a quick bike over to the neighborhood walking trail. She did great the entire time but I do need to remember to put an earplug in the corresponding ear because she whistles loudly almost the whole time, LOL.
Then I stopped at a field and let her hop around on the grass and follow me down the sidewalk, she even tried flying a little (I have not clipped her). I hope to do some flight training with her of I can get her to fly to me. We even attracted a passerby and talked for a bit. The lady was also a bird lover and played with the idea of petting onyx but I told her that she was about 75% likely to give her a nasty bite lol, so she wisely refrained.
All in all it went great-- there was a bit of a struggle getting the harness off but as soon as it was she just floofed her feathers and enjoyed more pecan pieces and a bath and did not want to go back into her cage! Once she was she preened and ate and settled in for a good self-face petting session.
I would have got pics but my iPod died right at the start of our excursion so maybe tomorrow :3 hopefully the weather is nice.
Edited to add that I guess I did take one picture! This was about 2 mins after we first went outside.
