The little dude is doin a little swim....
Or so I hope. I added him to the main 40gal full-time in a breeder box, and he seems to like it much better than being alone (I'm not suprised). I lost the mini pellets, and my sister gave me some! How nice! He still does have to be syringe fed, and the vet gave me an extra syringe for that. He hasn't seen the vet, but the vet knows all about him.

He's still doing well, but I discovered he has no lips...
Of all the things he couldn't have, why the LIPS!? He can't keep food in his mouth, so I have to syringe feed him. Anyhow, I'm thinking of getting a slightly smaller baby pearlscale to be his friend, as they seem to be pretty docile (unlike my oranda and black moor).

If all goes well, he'll be housed in a separate 40gal (my turtle's old tank) with the pearlscale.

Anyhow, he seems to be much happier and healthier (mentally) from being housed in the breeder box where he can see and interact with other goldfish. The comets I've been raising are being rehomed tomorrow, hopefully!

Finn is doing amazing! I actually introduced him to the main 40gal with my 3 other juvie goldfish (Gizmo, Monty, Othello). I didn't quarantine Gizmo because she was actually specially bred from very healthy parents, and kept in a separate tank from all other goldfish of her kind for at least a month (meaning she's already been quarantined).

She's really healthy and gentle, although she is quite overwhelmed from seeing other fish for the second time in her life. I would say she's at least 6 months old.

Anyhow, Finn is doing so well! His 'tumor' is actually part of the inside of his mouth. I drew a diagram of it. The blue is his throat opening (which is small on its own), and the black is his lower mouth/tumor.

So he has a thing like a bubble on the bottom of his mouth, that bulges when he takes water and food in. Is that right?

Yeah, basically. Water, food, and air. By the way, I swear my water is crystal clear. I just have to take pics on a Chormebook most of the time.

You can only change so much water at a time in an aquarium, and goldfish poop a lot. I didn’t notice anything. No worries.

I am just glad that you aren’t trying to medicate away a tumor that isn’t a tumor, but just a cheek or mouth bulge. Hopefully Finn will be much happier with fish buddies.

I wouldn't medicate a birth defect! FInn is extremely happy with his new friends. Monty nipped him at first, so I put him back in the breeder box. Boy, was he unhappy. He used all his strength to try to get out, until I let him out (he was just too stressed and determined).

So as I was browsing my local pet store last weekend, I came across this little guy sitting at the bottom of the fantail tank. Turns out he's extremely inbred and severely disabled, and the pet shop was going to euthanize him if no one bought him and he didn't improve. So, I took him in.

In terms of infection/illness, he's EXTREMELY healthy. I mean, I have never had a fish as healthy as him in that way, not even my well-bred goldfish have been so healthy. He is super disabled, though. He has a fused tail, severe photosenstitvity (which I've never seen in fish), a curved fin, such a small inner mouth that I have to feed him baby betta pellets, a jaw that won't close all the way, and a large tumor on his chin that weights him down when he's not swimming.

Now, he's doing very well! His tumor seems to be shrinking, and he even spent some time floating in a breeder box in my main goldfish tank (40 gallons), so he doesn't get depressed. And man, I love this little guy! He gives me so much hope, and is thriving in his new home! I hope he lives for many years to come.

I know....
It means he can't bite to defend himself, so he has to be housed with docile fishies only

Well, the new goldfish (who is now named Mrs. Turtleduck by my best friend) is VERY docile. She's gonna be living with Finn probably.

I've had a couple people on different forums ask me if keeping him alive is even worth it. I mean, I have to syringe feed him at least 3 times a day using special food! Then I remember how amazing his quality of life is. How he used to lay at the bottom of the tank, no will to live, but is now thriving in a 40gal, swimming around, and getting better by the day. And no matter how hard it is, I'll ALWAYS fight for him and put that extra work in to make sure he thrives. He has a whole 8-20 years left, all because he was given a chance ❤️

That would be an oranda goldfish....
I think she meant a tumor, but idk. There’s also many other goldfish with a wen (the fatty lump pj some goldies heads), such as ranchus and crown pearlscales!

There's been a little spider in the corner of my bathtub for about a week. It's a juvenile American house spider and it's really cute. Yesterday I moved it to the windowsill of the small bedroom (I don't have window screens) so that I wouldn't keep scaring it when I took a bath/shower. It's made me think of you every time I see it and while I'd be getting ready I'd be telling it stories about how "Ollie would know exactly what kind of spider you are but I'll have to Google to find out whether you'd be happier outside" ❤️

Your kindness ripples ever outward :)
