Final Arangements

1. We are hopeful that our DYA Amazon (Julio) will out live us and like our prior Amazon, he is a major part of our Will supported by a solid Trust and full funding. Today, US Law supports properly written 'Pet Care' built into a Will. Yes, you must find a Lawyer with the knowledge to properly write it, so that it will remain fully supported by and within the Will. We are very lucky that we have a family member that has a love for Amazons and has been a active part of our more recent Amazons life's. I cannot help you with other possibilities. If you choose an organization, you need to assure that the owners are young enough to outlive your Parrot and that the Will is strong enough to recover your Parrot if their organization fails.

You know, it's never too early to start thinking about this for Kizzy. Thanks for the information. I need to make sure she is well-cared-for should something happen to me. :green:

I keep coming back to this thread. I wish this was a subject people brought up to new parronts. So many species have such long lives.

I wish my mother in law had thought of Duke when she was making her arrangements. He ended up staying with her disabled son for six months after she passed, and my brother in law simply does not have the mental or emotional capacity to care for such an intelligent creature. I suppose I knew that, but since she hadn't made any arrangements and we weren't close, I felt like I had no right to do anything. It was only after I could literally feel the sadness and desperation of that poor little bird that I insisted he come home with us. My husband took a little while to warm up to him but I think (hope) it helped ease some of his grief for his mother, and they get along well now.

Duke's only 10 so I hope he'll outlast me. If that turns out to be the case, I'll definitely be including him in whatever arrangements there are to make. Hopefully, one of my human kids will be in a place to take him. That's a nice thought.

Thank each and every one of you for opening up such painful, difficult memories.
