feathers change

hey guys ..
I have my orange winged amazon parrot
he is in a good health .. at regular time for playing .. sleeping ..eating a full-component diet
and everything goes fine ..
but for long time ago .. i noticed that there are some feathers especially the ones near his head and at the upper back .. get damaged and become grey at the end of it .. become weak and like a separate hair-like or threads
and lost its color
and when you look at his back .. you fine like there are grey spots scattering
even though i used to give him a complements like antibiotics and vitmanins powder once a week
but still nothing change
and i dont think that it might be genetic ,, bcoz at past he didnot have such a thing
what do u think guys the problem will be??!!

They may be overpreened or depigmented. Was he on a good diet before you got him? If not, I bet with the next molt you will see improvement now that he's being fed right. Pete has some of those as well on the back of his neck. He was on a seed diet for 28 years though with some human food.

actually , thats what I was thinking about
bcoz a lot of his feathers got changed over the last months but still there are some so thats why I asked here
about the previous diet before I got him .. I dont think never he was on a good one
and I think it was only sunflower seeds ,, you know , must of pets seller dont want to spend a lot of money for good diet and parrot caring ,, caring more of their gain of money hh

When I saw Pete in the sun this afternoon I realized his new wing and tail feathers are beautiful. So I am already seeing a difference in his health. Sunflower seeds are no good for birds.

Did you say you've been giving him antibiotics every week? They are not healthy to take regularly; only if there is a bacterial infection diagnosed by a vet.

Does he have a lot of toys? If he is over preening (or any other feather destruction), toys can give him something else to do.

Oh, I wanted to also mention the antibiotics as well. Remy is correct that you should not be giving them unless prescribed by a vet for a bacterial infection. And over the counter ones are totally ineffective against pretty much all bacteria anyway due to overuse. Don't give them unless the vet tells you to.

about the toys , he hasn't any toys that may produce harm for him

and also i will stop giving him antibiotic .. even though it was a mixture powder of antibiotic and multivitamins

btw ,, what about only the multivitamins drops ??
just to maintain and promote his health .. is it ok ?? or does he need?
or does it have any bad effect on regular use ??

If his diet is healthy (lots of variety, fruits, veggies, pellets, etc), then he shouldn't need a vitamin supplement. I don't know what kind you are using, but some kinds (the more artificially derived kind, typically) don't absorb well. If you are worried about him getting enough nutrients, maybe you can use a high quality pellet, and use superfoods, like spirulina, chorella, kale, cherries, blueberries, and other high nutrient foods.

Antibiotics kill good bacteria as well as bad bacteria, so I think it would be a good idea to supplement his diet with a high quality probiotic supplement (good bacteria). Animals (and humans) are supposed to have a digestive tract filled with good bacteria to help digest food and absorb nutrients. When it is imbalanced, digestive problems can occur, and it can also become difficult to absorb nutrients as well. It can also lead to an overgrowth of the nasties that the good bacteria keep under control, like yeast. Very bad for you, unless there is a serious bacterial infection. Sorry for my rant.

There are powdered vitamins available that you can sprinkle onto wet food like fruit and veggies or oatmeal or something. I am giving some to Pete on the advice of the vet since he was on a bad diet for 28 years. But, I don't give them to my other 2 birds since they have always eaten well and are healthy.

so , the best is just to providing a good healthy well-mixed diet .. it is the protction and promotion for his heath
and will put the antibiotic and vitamins in "when need" list

and yeah ,, you are just right Remy
actually , Iam a 4th year medical student .. and really there are an obvious similarities in physio-psychology of birds and human
I love them since my childhood
soon I will try to put some photos of them
