Favorite Macaw Poll :)

I have four favorites:

Hyacinth - Generally the mushiest of the mush macs. They're just magnificent, loving, playful birds. Those EYES! Big black pools of pure mush!

Greenwing - To me not only are they one of the prettiest macs out there, but they have one of the best temperments. Big, goofy, loving, playful birds.

Red Front - Playful, smart, personable, easier to handle, goofy, sweet, loving, gentle, yet just the right amount of feisty at the same time.

Blue Throat - Why? See any picture of Zoe. Not much personality difference between a red front and a blue throat. They're both amazing birds.

I have two of these four.

Mark, red front or green wing?

Well, I have both, and couldn't live without either one of them.

My most bonded bird, however, at the moment, is my greenwing.

Maggie is nothing short of spectacular.

Honestly, there are very few macaws I DON'T like playing with...

In fact, I can only, really, think of one it wouldn't break my heart to never have to deal with again...

Hys followed by greenwing and blue throat. Though I can't emphasize enough how much trouble BTMs can be. [emoji23] I was keeping Zoe's cage door closed when she was out because otherwise she'd take the door off. Well, now she's figured out how to work the door mechanism so she opens it herself so she can take the door off. I also have to padlock the food dishes in the grey cage because she likes to open the food doors and help herself or dump the bowls.

And red fronts aren't far behind them... but BTM's are the most mechanically inclined parrot on the face of the earth. They can, and will, dismantle anything.

WOW! Nobody's mentioned B&Gs yet?

Since I have both a B&G and a GW, I couldn't choose one over the other. They are both absolutely AWESOME in every way imaginable!

My B&G actually enjoys physical interaction more than my GW. :D

I forgot to add mine.

Im with Mark, I was fortunate enough to grow up with a Hyacinth in the house. Big Blue was one of the most amazing birds I have ever interacted with. He was so loving almost up there with a cockatoo on just wanting to be cuddled. One look into those deep black eyes steals your heart. I was at a rescue last week and they had a hyacinth ( he was being boarded or else I would have taken him home) I walked over to his cage and he was sitting in the back corner. I started talking to him and he came around and hung on the door right in front of me, looked at me and then stuck his food out the cage to hold me hand. I stood there for a good 20 min talking to him and it made me miss our hy so much.

Number 2 would be a Green Wing. Personally I think coloring wise they are one of the most beautiful. Our Green Wing was all personality, Loved to be cuddled but would definitely make me laugh by being silly. One mischievous bird, She was the one that would get into trouble when you were not looking.

I have not had experience with Blue Throats or Red Fronts but Blue and Golds would be my number 3. Very high energy birds!

The biggest thing holding me back from getting a one now is how will I ever choose just one!?!?

That's easy enough. Get a BTM. They will keep you hoping so much you'll be too tired to have a second one [emoji16]

Seriously, they are as cuddly as a too and as much trouble as a 2 year old. As far as they are concerned it's "all about them." You will never be bored with a BTM.

haha Good point! I have only seen a Blue Throat in person once. My problem is that I absolutely loved our Hyacinth. So I'm just juggling waiting a couple years to save up the absurd amount of money they bring these days or to get something easier initially on the pocket book sooner knowing that I will end up wanting a Hy later as well.

IDK if a BT and a HY would be a great idea because of the significant size difference.

I don't think they'd be a good combo, not because of the size difference, but because btm's tend to be very jealous. I can't have any other bird on or near me when Zoe is out. I've heard the same from other BTM owners.

If I could have had any mac it would have been a Hy. But there's no way I could afford the maintenance even if I figured out how to afford the bird.

Well you asked...GW.Ivan was my first and only..went to the Bird Show at Busch Gardens in 1981 and was blown away at what they could do...told myself "someday" and that day was four years ago..I could go on and on...but most on this site "know"

Well, I saw my first Hyacinth macaw today at a bird store, and I must say, I'm jealous of anyone who has one. They're just beautiful! Although, my favorite looking are still Greenwings, I just love the deep red! All-in-all, I have to say greenwings!:red1:. Hyacinths are definitely a close second:blue:
