I am wanting to try giving mr. skittles more variety in his "fresh" food.
Right now his absolute favorite thing ever, is peaches. But I had read not to give them too often because of the acid levels? He also really likes dandelion greens or collard greens.

What sorts of things do your conures or other parrots like eating?

(a lot of people say bananas, unfortunately I have an extreme allergy to bananas and strawberries :( )

:rainbow1:

Mine love kiwi, grapes, pears, apples, and pomgranate for fruits example, but mine are pigs and eat every fruit and veg they can get their beaks on.
As for vegs, bell pepper and yes hot red peppers are the winners here followd with corn, carrots and i honesty haven't found anything exept organic pellets that they wouldn't eat.

You're probably going to have to do a bit of trying, to see what Skittles will try, but if you're not opposed to letting him eat off of your plate, our feathered friends will often try new things quicker if they see their flock-mates eating them.....it also helps to make a big production out of eating new things, lip smacking & don't forget the oohs & ahhs.....

My guys will eat everything on Hacatta's list, but I will caution you about the mess & staining of pomgranate fruit & seeds.....

Good luck.....

I'd try to feed more veggies and less fruit. My sennies love sweet potatoes. Zoe, the mac, loves green beans. The linnies love kale.

Our gcc Peep loves grapes, strawberries (sorry), celery, spinach, and just about all things you give him to try. He doesn't like bananas or peanut butter. I've heard many like peppers so I will try Peep on those.

tried this one while eating a fruit salad the other day. he decided to lick all the different fruits i had and liked grapes and honeydew melon the best.

I let him sit on the table while I made a salad for my lizards as well and he kept stealing the orange bell peppers and pieces of kale LOL

That is so true our Sun is like that - anything you want him to try just pretend that it's the greatest thing in the world and pretend he can't have it (really) and in a few minutes he will be desperate to get it from you! He's such a baby - the truth is they are the eternal two-year-old. LOL

Broccolini is a hit - all my birds adore it! I grow it in my garden (well, it was labeled "broccoli", but due to a cold summer it didn't quite get to a size of a broccoli). I buy at the stores too, so my birds have a lot of it. Mine wouldn't touch any other veggies :(
Second thing is seeded berries like raspberries or blackberries, okay, you said no strawberries, right? Parry ate a huge raspberry from my garden today.
Parry absolutely loves apples and he taught other bids to like them too - they can finish a half of apple in one day! for some reason they don't touch pears, plums or peaches although I find them delicious and get so upset when they don't want them.

I observed one interesting thing - my birds eat MUCH BETTER any stuff from my garden than from the store. Maybe they can feel the difference between organic homegrown produce and the store one "dirty" with all sort of chemicals?

My Lily will try everything on my plate ... fish, chicken, crab, shrimp, rice ...

Last night she saw me eat steam crabs, she came by and chew on a crab paddle leg. She chews on all of the food on my plate; not sure if she ingest everything she chews.

Fruits: banana, grape, apple, jujube, nectarine, papaya, mango, dragon fruit, almond.

Vegetables: hot chilli pepper, bell pepper, cooked rice (every night), sweet potato, peppermint stem, grass flower, dandelion stem.

Our lovebird is crazy about corn, we can hardly get her to eat anything else. We buy frozen organic sweet corn at costco. We just thaw it out.
