Only way to determine cause is necropsy (autopsy) by avian vet. Sometimes lab tests will be needed for conclusion.

It sounds like he had a good life and was loved very much.


Please make sure that your vet did report the infection-- or that you do (not sure if an individual can- pretty sure the vet should have)...but it's super important because it's so contagious (and the viral form is required to be reported, from what I understand...unless I am mistaken).
