She is even doing better this morning. Right now she is hanging upside eating off her treat block.

Right now we think the main lock on the front door may have not been closed all the way down. We know from the past that she has been able to open the lock on her own if it's not firmly set in the hinge. We think we will be permanently locking that door from now on.

So happy to hear she is doing well. You are very lucky she is alive. Could have been a disaster.

first, you need to stop blaming yourself. you need to recognize how lucky you are that you didnt find her dead. i would recommend that you baby her. make her comfortable. and get to the vet asap! contact your work, explain to them that you have a family medical emergency and will be out of town..they dont need to know specifics. and next time, make sure that her cage is escape proof. she will most likely be okay. shes probably just very upset and scared. when birds get hurt, they dont understand whats going on..so they have a little emotional breakdown.

also... i had a parson russell terrier.. and the first moment he was mean towards my conure, i asked my family to take him. dogs are easy to rehome. i'm not saying you have to... i'm just saying that a dog can be very very resilient. i still see my dog often, and i really miss him.. but my parrot is my entire world.

Thanks for the concern but to be honest if my dogs wanted to kill her they could of. I think they were just trying to play with her more than anything. My dogs actually get along with the bird fine when we are all sitting on the couch, she must of just made them excited when she was flying around the house.

Dogs are not "easy to rehome" in most circumstances. So many are in shelters, so many are put down... I'm not passing judgement since there was a good home for the parson russell and the bird was clearly more important to you than the dog was, but I don't think most people are in that situation.

There is a certain amount of risk in keeping multiple kinds of pets in a home, but the risk can be minimized. When a bird comes into a household it does not automatically become "most important pet". It's almost like saying that if a new baby comes into the household and the older child is having a hard time with it, you should adopt out the older child. People who have birds love their non-avian pets, too.

I'm sure Fenrir has been plenty sobered enough by this incident and will take steps to make sure future encounters are well supervised. I kind of feel as if he's being picked on a bit here!

I don't feel picked on and in a sense this incident was my fault. It's my wife and I's responsibility for the well being of the bird. You can't blame a dog for being a dog. If anything I'm happy that my 3 dogs didn't bite or try to kill her. It's just when you have two Boston Terriers and a German Shepard they are going to accidentally hurt her by there size alone.

I know better now but I hope some other people that have mixed pet homes to realize even though everyone gets along when you are around doesn't mean all will be well when you are gone.

True, that's why when we are out of the house, we close the cage doors and the door to the room the cages are in!

So true. Our dog is 13 years old and wouldn't bite a fly and Forrest climbs on her when she is sleeping. (We discourage that of course) He tries to nip her foot, she just gets up and moves. I never leave them alone together for fear the older dog might be sleeping too sound and bite out of pure defense not even realizing what she had done. You just can't be too careful because given the right circumstance any dog can attack no matter how much trust we have in them.
