Don't know what he wants

He has been sitting here for an hour now crying like he does when he is hungry. I tried to feed him but he wasnt interest. Only had half a meal. Does the head bob like he is hungry but I know if I try feed again he won't be interested.

Not sure what to do or try. Lol. Like having another baby.

Have you tried just petting him? Could be as simple as that. Have you changed his diet recently to something new? Sometimes actually the only times clark complains is for getting petted or telling me he's tired and we both need to go to bed.

Ok my bird just made a liar out of me he also complains when I make oven food....he see's the pizza, or lasagna, or meatloaf or whatever...then it goes into the oven and he's like NO LETS EAT IT! I can in no way convince him it's only good once we cook it! SO he cries out like your stupid lets eat!

No. He is still on the same formula the breeder used. I have started introducing parrot pellets. But most of the brands available in SA are 80% sunflower seeds. So not sure which brand to try look for.

I eventually pet him and loved and he was quite cuddly. Considering that these birds are said to not be cuddly I was surprised and how he was rubbing up against my fingers.

He eventually calmed down.

It took him a while to calm down while petting him but I definitely think it helped.

Formula around 38-39 degrees Celsius

The syringe normally as warm as the formula. I leave the tip in the formula until ready. Although lately he has been preferring the spoon itself.

Amount per feeding varies. Syringe is 10ml he either has a full syringe or 1 1/2 syringes.

Weighed him now he is 110g. I will weigh again tomorrow night to keep track. He is doing well other than this mornings episode.

At the breeder he was on 3 feeds a day, today he wasn't interested in a morning feed so I put some softened pellets in his cage which he played with. (Yesterday he wasn't interested in the morning feed either. The breeder had said he started putting thicker formula in their cage in the morning to see if they eat themselves)

Lunch he was interested but only had half a meal and then begged/cried afterwards. I tried banana. New food with syringe and spoon. I tried softened pellets. Didn't want anything.

I will see how supper goes

If you raise the temp of your formula you will almost certainly get him gulping his food again. As babies get older they get more picky about temperature. I've never met a baby ringy who would feed properly at the temp you are using.

I suggest raising it to 42 degrees celcius but NO WARMER THAN 43.3!

I suggest raising it to 42 degrees celcius but NO WARMER THAN 43.3!

Thanks SilverSage. The package recommended 38-40 degrees. Tonight it was on the warmer side. Closer to 40 and he ate with gusto with a bent spoon. I weighed him afterwards he weighed 132g.

He went to my husband so I could feed the dogs and now he is begging again that I have him. Lol. I fed him until he refused.

And in my experience a baby refusing formula but still crying either isn't being offered warm enough formula, or is sick; usually a yeast infection in the mouth. I was hoping in your case it would be the formula as that is such an easy fix, and unweaned birds get extremely sick extremely fast and are difficult to save once things start going wrong.

Yes. I know it's touch and go. Breeder says he is 7 weeks. But doesn't seem to have as many feathers as other 7week olds Iv seen.

He is on this formula. Should he be on phase 3, slightly thicker with more texture?

Yeast infection - is there anything you can see in the mouth if that is the case?

Does he fly at all? If so then yes probably move to the next phase, but I'm not familiar with that formula.

Yes if the infection was local to the mouth you would see white buildup in the mouth and he would act like it hurt to eat.
