So I have my 2 budgies, Fish and Blue. Blue is definitely a he. Fish I am not so sure as she/he is a Lutino. However in seeing recent behavior between the two of them (Fish becoming a big birdie boss) I have my strong suspicions Fish is a she. Sooooooo......I want to redesign the cage so that there are no obvious nesting places to tempt them to try and create their own little budgie gang. This will mean removing the double coconut bridge I have in their cage that they love popping in and out of. My question is could I move it to their tree stand where they spend a couple hours a day instead, or is that still enough time to try and create their little feathered family or at least promote/encourage hormonal nesting behavior? Thanks in advance!

I am no expert, but I err on the side of overly cautious. A nest is a nest is a nest. And there are other reasons besides an outlaw budgie gang that you’ll want to discourage any nesting/hormonal behaviors. They include things as minor as general naughtiness and as serious as egg binding, which is often fatal.

Even same sex pairs can get hormonal with each other. My bestie has a pair of Quaker’s she call the angry lesbians, and when she first rescued them, they often laid eggs.
