Oakwood, Ohio
Parrots
i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
I am trying to find out where I can purchase grapevine to make some playstands. I have seen play stands for birds in fact I have a hanging piece (If you look at my picture by my name) I would love to be able to buy thick pieces to build some stands, hanging perches etc. Any ideas?

Right here: Grapewood

I just ordered in about 5 different ones. Their shipping is very reasonable. Great branches. I am making a room for my birds with these and boings and lots of other climbing toys and regular toys. I ordered several different sizes.

Thanks dishgal, I too am making a room for my bird. I have seen that site, I am looking more for the long kind or bendable branches. I'm not sure if you can see the hanging piece that is in my signature, but it is made of long kind of bent pieces. They have bark on them.

If you live in the country like I do you can find it growing wild and aged. Other wise craft stores often have it.

im not very creative with this stuff, but what can you use grapevine for? i have a wild grapevine on my property and have a planted one... but dont know what i could do with them!? :)

If you look at my picture by my signature there is a large hanging grapevine play perch. I would like to make something like this.

I managed to a car boot full of grapevine for free from a local vineyard. I just emailed them to ask if I could come by and collect some after they had finished pruning. If you need a lot of it then it will probably work out cheaper to drive to a vineyard than to order it online. Make sure it is an organic vineyard though because commercial vineyards use a lot of chemicals on their plants which might not be safe for parrots.

If you can tell me what size length and dia you want and if we can figure out how to ship it to you. I will be glad to cut you some. I copied a picture of your avatar and am going to attempt to make me a perch like that.

Sondra that is so nice of you! I will try and get you a better picture!

lucky for me about a half hour away there are like 20 grape farms that sell me vine for very very cheap. and there is some wild grapes behind my uncles house( he has like 30 acres of land)

I am going to go try cutting some this week sometime so will let you know how it goes and kinda get an idea of how long we need it.

If you harvest it, do you treat it before use?

I just ran across this looking around :) Does anyone know if the vine has to be treated ? I did read you should bake some wood for 1 hour at 250 to kill anything . I have a unlimited supply of Grapevine in my back yard

I have a creek near my house those long thick vines on the trees grow there. Perhaps if there is a creek near you it could be harvested. Just a thought. Bonita
