Does all female conures lay eggs?

Two green cheek conures
Hello I'm new to this forum and had a question you all might be able to help me with. I've had a pineapple gcc for a couple years now and by the way she gets low and flutters her wings and puts her tail to the side I assumed she is a female. (I know DNA or egg laying is the only way to know for sure) she has not layed any eggs though (not complaining). I just recently bought a 6 month old GCC and they are in two separate cages right next to each other. I noticed the new gcc was doing what looked like a mating dance trying to impress my other conure. Not sure if that was a acceptance dance or what. What do you guys think?

Yes all female birds have the potential to lay eggs unless there is some sort of problem with the bird. That doesn't mean they will lay eggs though. Their diet, environment or stimulation are big factors in this. Poor diet, wrong sort of environment and lack of the right sort of stimulation will usually prevent this from happening.

More likely your new GCC was doing a territorial display than a mating dance. It could just be a display of excitement too. Try these videos and see if the behaviour is similar to what your bird is doing [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m53dyRBXvj8"] Hormones and Mating Behaviour[/ame] [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukQ22bAw0QU"]Green Cheek Behaviour[/ame]

Just because they have the potential, does not mean they WILL. I have a 13 -year-old cockatoo who has *knock on wood* never laid an egg..she could go her life without laying (in theory) UNLESS she gets super hormonal or sexually stimulated (and that can happen easily of you do not know what to avoid).

Thanks for the replies, my new conure was on my finger In front of my older conure and he started flapping his wings frantically and screeching. I'm thinking it's definitely territorial. He did try to regurgitate with the whole bobbing of the head as well. Not sure when or if they will ever be friends.

Make sure he doesn't see YOU as a mate...no shadowy spaces or huts etc, 10-12 hours of sleep, healthy diet etc...Pet on the head and neck ONLY..There is potential for jealousy here--especially if the sexually mature bird views you as a mate (Which is likely) and the young one as a threat...I can't say for sure whether that is happening, but be on the look-out!
