Cost of Macaws

Yes. I am looking on there also. I am not in the market for a Hy even though they are beautiful. Bring in the military, they are a little out of my price range..lol
Holding out for a Catalina or maybe a scarlett. Have seen a few militarys at the local bird store, but not sure that is what I am looking for either.[/QUOTE]

Oh and depending on your price range I know a breeder in San Diego who has a male Harlequin who is currently being handfed and I believe the female Green Wing is still up for sale also. He should only be about 20 minutes from the base.

Nice. Does he have a website or anything?

On the topic of Hys I know two people that have them and both started out with other macaw birds first. I kinda consider the Hy to be the Rolls Royce of macaws and something you would want to move up to owning later; after you are sure you have what it takes to be a "Macaw Person". Remember this is a lifetime commitment as it is entirely possible they will outlive your grandchildren. I started out being such a person with a Catalina; "Doogie" that was given to me by my family doctor. I got him when he was 4 and he just turned 20. Then I got a rehomed B&G, Kayko who is now 31 and then my Scarlet Clifford who is 10. My 3 birds all have their own room and own cages in the house with a tile floor, refrigerator and sink. I highly suggest the tile floor for messes and that you aquire a Shop-Vac with a 3" hose which is able to vacuum up walnut shells. I have a large tree branch spanning their room which they are on most of the day, partying and interacting with one another. Their room has a baby gate type door so they can see and interact with us in the dining room. My wife's maximum load limit of macaws is 3, so if I want to stay married I will not attempt getting any more unless she passes, or unless a Hy comes my way.
P.S. Here is a pic of my Catalina Doogie. He is a little unusual for a Catalina in that he has a dark colored beak. A Harlequin is a darker orange

There are a few Hy breeders local in Socal if you are looking for a Hy - I recommend to use extreme caution when purchasing one online. I ALWAYS ask them to send me a video. I ask them to do a few specific things in the video also to show me that it is legit. I also only use paypal so incase something happens and I don't get the bird I have a way to get my funds back. Never money transfer or western union.
Also in Socal there are a TONS of macaws on clist have you looked there?
