Converting to Harrison's

I'm thinking of converting my two ringnecks to Harrison's. I'm not sure however if I have to start them on high potency first or just go straight to the lifetime since they have been on pellets for their whole lives.. I can't seem to find a straight answer. They are currently on zupreem fruitblend mixed with natural which they don't seem to like. Also they are picky with the colors. Thanks for the help!

The HP is with the assumption that the bird is on an unhealthy diet to begin with, and the HP is meant to help correct nutritional deficiencies. However, for some species, it's recommended to keep them on the HP diet rather than switching them to the AL diet.

If your birds are healthy, then it should be fine to switch them directly over to the AL.


Harrison's doesn't seem to have any guidelines for ringnecks....

Thanks for the info.. They only seem talk about conversion from seed- based diets.

Last I saw...they recommend starting with the HP for a few months.. OH... don't forget don't buy in bulk... that stuff has to be in the fridge after u open it and will lose its potency after being opened for a while.

Remembered to check the bags I have on the Ha rrisons... It says 6 months start on the High Potency.. but then it mentions species that can be left on the HP all the time... figured id stick this up here in case u r still lookin

I would recommend that you keep your Harrison's in the Freezer! We only take a couple days worth out at a time. Just keeps it fresh longer.

If you are set on Harrison's I would feed high potency for the recommended time (6mos?) but if they are gaining too much or too crazy I would switch to adult before the full term .

25+ years ago, when Harrison's was a small company, my avian vet recommended them... not sure if you could get the same service today, but she actually consulted with Harrison, who recommended the High Potency for my Patagonian, supplemented with various fresh foods.
