LuLu the GCC
(aka: Lu-Lucifer, Lu-Ludacris, Lu-Lunatic..she is the total opposite)
Good afternoon yall. This, obviously, is my first post on the site. I joined the forum for two reasons basically. One, ive found so many answers, all of them helpful, here on this site. Also because I have a few more specific to me questions I'd like to ask, but will do in a separate post, hopefully in the right area's. This is just to let yall know about me, and my lil buddy.

Brendan(me): 24 years young. United States Marine:42:. Spent a good amount of time over seas. Live in NY, close to parents but not to close. Have my own place. No kids, unless the bird counts and at times, i think She does. I am white. Irish:41:, first gen. Sure theres more but could take hours.

Lulu(bird child): Green Cheek.:rainbow1: 2 years old approx. 'Adopted' her from a home/farm. Thats about all I know. I feel like the owner did care because with the "re-homing" bulls*** fee, I got food that she would special prepare for lulu, but other then that i got nothing. Love the bird. SOO quiet, most of the time. I had kept the name lulu because she does say it occasionally. However i have updated her with new nick names: LU-lunatic, LU-lucifer, LU-loony and LU-ludicrous. She is kinda the opposite of those but does have the capacity to be LU-Loony.

Q:Why did I take her in?
A: I have experienced alot of loss, meaning death more often then not, in my life.
--Lost my first real gf to leukemia in like 8th grade. By real gf, i mean one who got to meet my mom, faily, etc.
--Then 2010- went to wake my little bother up to go bowling as promised, found him deceased. Had epiilepsy and it took him out, heart stopped. Also had tourettes, and diabetes, so full plate.
--Then mom got stage 4 ovarian. (is now in remission.. total miracle).
--First dog, my dog, age 13 had to be put down, 4 mo. after that.
--Iraq, Afghanistan. Don't need to say more. Wont say more.

So im tired of death, big time. Birds last a while when cared for, so thats my intention. Wanted a sun conure or a macaw but search came up empty. Got this GCC and love the little ****. Thats me, and her in a nutshell kinda. I look forward to having some direct feedback from you guys. Its helped a ton before they were specific to me so thanks for that as well!

Welcome to the forum. Lulu is adorable:D Birds can do a world of good for a person. So long as you take good care of them and love them, they will love you unconditionally and always be there to cheer you up. As creatures of higher intelligence, they have empathy and are incredibly in tune to their humans emotions. I'm sure Lulu will quickly become your new best friend:)

Welcome, today was my first intro. When Robin our sun conure passed before the Super Bowl, we were devastated at 2 years old. Lu Lu will bring you so much happiness. Call yourself Daddy and everytime you enter the room tell him Daddy's here before you know it he'll be saying it when you come thru the door. We couldn't go a week without the happiness a bird brings to your life so we got a NEW sun conure, (he needed us because the pet store didn't spend time with him). Keep up the updates and have fun with LuLu.

Welcome to the forum! How long have you had Lulu? She is such a cutie!

It is so amazing how much love these little birds can bring to our lives like i am sure you are finding with Lulu.
Well done on joining a community who knows exactly how you feel about you little feathered child ....yes the bird counts! Lol.

Welcome to the forum! It's true... Birds definitely have some sort of healing properties - good for the soul. They always help me cope through tough times.

Welcome to the forum, glad you have found this site helpful! Ask away and im sure you will get all you questions answered. She looks like a lovely little cinnamon green cheek! How long have you had her? I wanted a bird for the same reason, i wanted a friend that would live along time! :)

King, thank you for your service. Lulu is a little doll! Soon you won't be able to imagine your life without a bird in it! They really do become members of your family. We look forward to seeing more pics of her!

Brendan, first of all, thank you for your service to our country! Welcome to the forum, glad you joined us.

I'm so sorry for your terrible losses.

Lulu is lovely and she sounds like a real character. You really had me laughing at all the extra names you have for her. Looking forward to hearing more from you and LuLu.

I must say, over the years i've really only ever took the time to join maybe 4 other forums, this being the 5th and only one not vehicle related. This by far has been the most welcoming, informal and all around well structured site yet. I'll stick around.

Thank you Kiwibird. She is a great friend so far. Its impressive how they can pick up on my emotions. Even I don't always know my own emotions lol

Thank you Robin! Welcome to you as well. Sorry to hear about your bird. Thats gotta be tough, i can only imagine although I try not to. The main driving force behind the bird though was because i watched after a sun conure for about 4 months. LOVED that bird. Flew to me the instant she saw me. The only thing I didn't like, the speed I went thru new t-shirts. Enjoyed to chew them but was so cute i had a difficult time saying no.

Thank you miloslave, I have had Lulu now about 4 months. She's a good bird. Likes to be attached to my shoulder. Everywhere I go. I live in NY so she doesn't go outside. ****, I don't even go outside unless I have to. Thnks again.

Thank you Violette. Right you are. Just something about the way they tilt their head and stare at you or fly up to you just to cuddle against your neck.

Thank you Ann333. Had her about 3-3.5 months now. Got her in the middle of October if i recall correctly. So, she is a Cinnamon GCC? I gave up trying to figure it out. Lulu seems to be her own little species

Thank you Agapornis, She made her way into my family pretty quick. Even my sis who is deathly terrified of birds loves lulu. We had parakeets and my sister for some reason would be so scared. They were tame-ish too. For whatever reason, they only allowed my mom and me to handle them. The one, Buddy, would fly around the room and always come to me. He actually died the morning of my brothers funeral. Went to take the blanket off, he was sleeping on the floor unfortunately.

Thank you Allee. She is a character all right. Itd impressive how much character there is in such a little body. Can go from the most silly like little bird to letting everyone know she is here and awake haha. Im conditioned to get up early as is, and she works great as a no-battery needed alarm clock.

Thank you Flboy. At first look I thought your name was FlyBoy which is another term for the air force. What do you mean by BOF? Bird of Flight? Again, im a novice at all the aviary world terms and what not

Welcome King! I'm new to the bird world also. Love my GCC. With him, it can be a love/hate relationship. Right now he's at the "love" stage. So sorry to hear about all those you have lost. Very sad. But I want to thank you for your service...freedom is never free.

Well, you've joined the right forum. I've learned a lot from these folks and try to comment on my experience with my bird also. Anything that will help others also helps me too. Your LuLu is a beauty. Have fun

Funny about the tee shirts, we were going thru 4/week with Robin! I'd wear it in reverse so he picked both sides! I'm enjoying being a part of a group that is all about our birds!
