Soooo I have been doing my own research- looking for and reading reviews about them...turns out there are quite a few others that feel the same way I do about how they take care of their animals--

So! I will be not only be sending a letter to them but to our local newspaper as well.

Now if only my dang printer will work

WOW what a tough thing to have to go through for you and the poor bird. Would you consider taking the bird if they wanted to sell it? Have you offered them a price for it? My bet is that if you walked in and offered them a nice amount they might consider it. Think about it and try it. All they can say is no. Then offer the play gym and the toys to them. Keep us posted. Good luck.

Right now I don't have the cash to pay her ransom if they did want to sell her, or the space for her :( but both of those will change in a couple weeks...

I haven't ever actually asked "is she for sale?" -I'm going back in a couple days to pick up Chili's new boing, so I will ask then... And maybe have a conversation with the lady if she's there.

I'm not really sure what the best way to go about this is, but the pet store I visit has a resident cockatoo that was given to them by an elderly couple-- so she's not for sale or adoption, she's just their "mascot" bird.

I visit the store once every 2-4 weeks depending what I need to get. Every time I visit her, her cage has poop everywhere, a bowl of seed, a few toys and not really anything spectacular.... Last visit was 10 days ago, there was someone's baseball hat on top of her cage with poop on it- today, it was STILL THERE. And there were things sprouting from the pellet-bedding stuff. She was also INSIDE THE BUDGIE CAGE stealing their food, because she had unlocked the food door and made her way in there

I worry because customers see this and probably think this is an acceptable way to keep a bird like this- and honestly her cage is too small; free range or not.

I've had thoughts of sending them an anonymous letter, or making toys myself and gifting them to her, or just plain stop shopping there to stop supporting them- which I'd rather not do, because they are "better" than the big box pet stores...

Any ideas??

What i've done in similar situations is to volunteer to clean the cage yourself. Maybe when other customeres are standing near by, offer to clean her cage for them. maybe buy a toy and hang it. lead by example.

Next time I go in there, I'll leave the kid at home so I can spend some time with her, and I'll buy her a toy and we'll see what happens...
