Do you know what stores carry them? Or their price range?

I always overthink putting a blanket on the bottom when I see plastic for some reason haha

um, pet carriers (generic) run from $15-70. Walmart carries them too. I'll be putting a fleece kitten blanket in the bottom of mine for my conure when I bring her home :) Wal-mart also has a foldable dog carrier that's about 30 (i think) it's brown and it looks really nice, so I might cave in and get one of those :)

Oh gosh I'm SO excited!! But I have butterflies too! Once I meet her I think all my worries will go away & then I can just focus on the getting her room all set up before she comes home! Already got her play stand made--I wish I had one human size! It has a pirate ladder with a little knotted swing to get her up there & of course a pinata! More toys to come!!

Oh that sounds so fun! I won't be able to bring my baby home til late june-ish so I'll have plenty of time to make some neat toys for her to play on! I'm moving to a 4 room apartment (bedroom, kitchen, livingroom, bathroom) so she can't have her own room, but i plan on making her a little toybox for in the bedroom and something fun for her to play on outside the cage for nearly every room (hesitant about the kitchen).

I will soon be venturing to pick up my female ekkie Scarlet on the 11th. It will be about a 4 and half hour ride to our new home, so my question is, what is the best way to travel with a new bird? Should I bring a travel cage, a towel & just wrap her in my lap (will not be driving) or try to find a carrier from a pet store? Also, is there anything I can bring that will help to calm her--favorite food (doritos), play favorite music (Brad Paisley) or a several toys to distract her?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I want to make the transition as smooth and stress-free for my little sweetie as possible.

I hope Scarlet had a safe and enjoyable ride home! A pet carrier (specifically a bird carrier) will do just fine. When I bring my birds home, I typically put them in the carrier and cover the carrier with a dark blanket. This puts the bird in night mode and encourages them to be calm. The dark blanket will also prevent the bird from looking out the windows. When a car is in motion, and an animal is able to see out the windows, it appears to the animal that they are "falling out of space". So I would keep their visibility limited.
When I got my first Parrot home we had some major discipline issues with her and the car ride home turned out being the easiest part. It could have been our lack of knowledge or her behavioral problems. I'll def. be bringing a few blankets along! It's just such a long ride!! When we stop at gas stations, should I uncover her for a few minutes & maybe feed her a treat? Or just leave the blanket on?

I'd feed her a treat! make her love you even more! haha I have to bring my baby an hour and a half in an old beat up pick up truck (that i wouldn't trade for the world lol i love my lil truck) so AC and visibility is not the issue, i'm concerned about the noise! lol I'd say feel free to give her a treat and tell her she's a good girl :) I wouldn't take her out though

Absolutely! When you are not in motion, it is totally fine to give her a treat and a few looks around. :)

Awwww! It looks like a little picnic basket!! I just wish they had them at their store so I could really size it up in person. I just don't want to end up with a tote that's too small for her & make her feel all stuffed in.

it does look like a picnic basket! and i love it! haha the reviews said it was good for cats, and cats are pretty big compared to a bird lol perhaps get out a tape measurer and estimate dimensions?

That is very true--there can be some pretty hefty cats. I'll get a better size of Scarlet when I see her this weekend & then be able to imagine her in a carrier when I go out to purchase one.

Any updates on your little baby Andrea?

None yet :) I'm going to visit her tomorrow though so I'll be sure to take pictures when i go! I'll take some pictures of the other birds there as well :)
