Ciry, Kira - B&G
Hello there dear friends!

So I haven't posted in a while, so here is a little update on how Ciry has been doing past few months.

She is very playful and VERY curious about all the things I am doing, like literally, I start to do something and she is immediately on my shoulder looking at the stuff I do, it is quite funny. She is very friendly and she behaves like I want her to, she has no problem of playing by herself, which is awesome. She also started to like her cage a lot :) She even goes there during the day to play, sleep and do stuff.

So here are some problems/questions I would like you to help me with:

She is a little bit underweighted, she has ~900g when her crop is half full. I am not giving her formula anymore, because I think that she can eat by herself pretty nice - problem is, not everyday. I mean, sometimes she will eat a lot, sometimes she eats nothing. When she doesnt eat, I give her mixed soaked pellets with siringe, so it is OK. My question is, should I buy 1 more hand feeding formula for her? When I hand feed her with the pellets, she is ALWAYS eager to eat it all. How should I encourage her to eat more food? Seems like she only likes fruit like banana or apple, we had no luck with veggies yet :-( And she doesnt eat pellets at all (even soaked in water / yogurth etc)

Next one, I taught her few tricks (shake hands, wave, paw, show tongue) and it went pretty smooth. The tongue, I taught her in less 12 hours (now she sticks her tongue on me 24/7 LOL :-D ). Problem is that in the past month or so, I cannot get her attention when training. It looks like she has no interest in her rewards (pecan nuts) - I mean, if I show it to her, she is not like going after it, but if I serve it she will eat it. Also she seems distracted all the time I want to train with her, the first minute or two, she is OK but then she starts to look everywhere around the flat and she wants to fly to her spot on wardrobe. I also tried to attract her with toys, but it was the same. I have no idea how I taught her the first tricks anymore lol, now I am trying to teach her bow, but it is hard to get her to bow for something.

She just seems to be off somewhat, acting unusually sometimes. Maybe it is just me, but I have this feeling...

Guess that is all, I wish you the best with your feathered friends :)
Thanks for reading ! :blue1:

Hmm...I know WHO gave you the idea of the tongue trick. Tab did! :D

Sorry, I can't help you with the trick department, but I would suggest to continue feeding her formula, especially if she is a bit underweighed.

Have you tried eating TOGETHER with her? (Not formula....REAL food) :D

I did try eating with her, but only 2-3 times... (and it went OK) Why did not I think of this? This might actually help us if I do it more often and with food she doesnt get too often (because she doesnt eat it) Thx :)

So here is a quick update:

I switched back from pellet formula to Zupreem formula, and I am handfeeding her now. Usually in the morning a decent amout, and then in the evening if she has not eaten enough. I find her VERY hard to encourage to eat food. She has seeds in one bowl, pellets in another, and also fresh fruit every day. She knows how to eat seeds very well, but she is not eating them enough (like only once or twice per day, small amounts. She doesnt eat pellets at all, even when I soak them.

When I take the bowl and pretend to eat the pellets or food, she always comes and eats from my spoon (a little bits), but she doesnt want to eat by herself.

So I have no idea how this works yet, but will this get better with time? I have no problem with hand-feeding her... Just would love to see her eating enough food. Like I said, very hard to encourage her. I also tried many mashed-things and lots of other stuff. Seems like everything is on the same page for her. What I noticed is, that a soaked parrot biscuit - she will eat that in a second, even more in a bowl (I guess it is that sweet taste of it)
