Out of his modest quarantine cage, into the 'mansion' with Mink :). I have the divider in the double flight cage. I'm not sure if I'll leave it in most of the time or not, but for now it will be in place. I've also been wanting to move the cage to a better location in the house. But in order to fit the huge cage which is over 5 feet long (160.02 cm), along the wall where I want it, I had to move furniture. Now the furniture doesn't look good where it is...

Oh well, I'll have to deal with the furniture issue later. For now I'm excited to introduce Chip to the cage.... and to Mink :D.

PICS COMING... STAY TUNED...

Good luck Mink and Chip!! Can't wait for the updates!!

Here is Mink and Chip's mansion :)

Whoa! Where am I?!

Can I go on that side too?

I think I already LOVE this bridge swing! I never met Twigs before, but mom says he would have wanted me to have his favorite piece of furniture. Thank you Twigs. ;)

Hey, there's someone over there! We must meet!

What other bird? I don't think I see anyone mom. (Let's see how long she can ignore him).

Um excuse me! Call pest control mom! We have vermin!

Congrats Chip on your lovely new home! Lol @ miss priss and the "we have a vermin" comment. Looks like Mink wanted no part in greeting her new neighbor then? At least Chip looks excited to have a lovely lady neighbor:) Love the setup Julie, and that's kinda cool to have a divider. If they end up getting along, will you remove it permanently? I know a lot of people keep multiple budgies in a cage together.

Thank you April! Actually, that is exactly Mink's personality. She's a little Miss Priss haha . They briefly met on the divider where a little bit of pecking and warning noises went on, but just for several seconds before they stopped, stared at each other, and Mink went back to hop on her swing with her back turned lol. Both of these budgies have good temperaments, so I don't expect any problems in the future.

I'm not sure if I'll keep the divider out or not. With a male and a female I will have to keep diligent about the environment and conditions to keep them out of breeding mode. I did it with Mink and Twigs, so we'll see. For now I'll keep the divider there. Although now that Mink has adjusted to being alone, I think she believes that she 'deserves' the entire double flight cage for herself and no one else!

Chip, look at you, all grown up and already graduating to a new aviary sized mansion! Darling photos, Julie! Fantastic set up! Wow, Mink is giving Chip a seriously icy welcome, I hope with a little time she'll warm up to him.

Wow Chip I do like your mansion and Congrats on moving into your lovely new home...I do have to say though that Miss Elsa is none too pleased about your flatmate as she felt sure you were her toy boy and by the look of Mink it is obvious from her behaviour that she heard about the online shenannigans with Elsa(she must have been reading parrotforums or else Julie spilt the beans LoL :)
I adore Chip but little Mink is Gorgeous too...I also love their mansion...what is the name of the cage Julie? Its huge. Fab pics of the happy couple in their new home :)

What a lovely mansion, fit for King and Queen!! Hope the iciness melts away fast!

Furniture? What furniture? All that matters is ideal placement of the bird cages. Silly humans can stack their furniture to the ceiling! :D

wow Amy is slummin' it by chip and minks standards! nice setup!

Thanks Allee :). I'm thinking Mink might be a little more excited about having company than she is letting on. Although right now she is only focusing on the fact that she has an intruder in "her" home!

Haha no Mary, I haven't told Mink anything about Elsa, and she hasn't been reading here either, I promise :D. Mink is just naturally a little standoffish I think. I'll make sure I never mention Elsa... I don't want to cause any problems between Mink and Chip. After all, they have to share the duplex!

I got the cage at birdcages4less.com They don't sell name brand cages, it's only 'their' brand. It had some slightly bent places where it doesn't fit together perfectly, but it's not a huge deal. Same quality as you can expect anywhere unless you pay top dollar. Customer service was good, and shipment was fast. I got it a year ago when I got Mink.

Thank you Scott. You're right, with a 5' cage, who has any room for ideal furniture placement . The birds think it's just fine :). I like where the cage is now. It's gets more light, and when the front door is open (there is a screen door) they can get some fresh air coming in.

Jim

Thank you Jim, it was a lot of fun setting it up!

I was interested in what you said Julie about being careful about not getting them into breeding mood...I remember the first Custi and Gelato (Budgies I babysat) were male and female and they never wanted to breed in all the years they were together...I dont think they consciously did anything to ensure this and I know I didnt when they were here other than not giving them a nest box. The second and current Custi and Gelato (they retained the names) are two boys but as I dont know the sexes of my new babies I was wondering if you could tell us what precautions you take. I love that cage you have but I dont think they would ship one this far LoL :)

Mary, the most important thing that was done before with Custi and Gelato, was that they weren't given a nestbox you say. Whether a proper box or not, giving anything that can be perceived as a potential place to nest needs to be avoided. Enclosed feed dishes, snuggle huts, even those hanging half coconut dish/toys, boxes, etc.

Also giving them enough sleep (dark time). They say limit to no more than 10 hours of daylight, although that's not always practical with everyone's schedule. Reduce the amount of light hours as much as you can anyway.

Limit high fat or high protein foods. Eggs, egg food, legumes should be limited or replaced by other nutritious foods.

If you still have mating or brooding behavior, changing up the cage or it's location might help throw things off.

I also didn't have a problem with Mink and my late Twigs. They as individuals just weren't interested in each other to begin with it seemed like.

About the cage, there are other brands that make that style. You might want to google 'double flight cage' ;).

Thanks Julie for both of the above posts...I like that cage very much but to get it from UK to Ireland would cost a lot of extra Euros...plus the measuremrnt of half of it would be about the same size as the liberta which if I got two Liberta Oregon cages it would cost me over 200 Euro less than the double cage and leave me with more cash for toys...this week is make my mind up time about what cage to go for...I will hold off another few days yet and see if I come across a double flight cage here in Ireland...if it was for sale in Ireland it would also be a cheaper carriage fee...to import from the UK the additional carriage fee is over half the cost of the cage again because of the weight involved.
