Charlotte-It happened so fast

Know you will be in our prayers. Sending much love and comfort your way. Glad you are having the necropsy done, as it will give you answers for which you are looking.

Rest in peace, pretty Charlotte, may you only remember the last, best, most loving home and people. Fly free at the Rainbow Bridge, girl!

I am so very sorry for your loss. Charlotte's story was a special one and you dramatically changed her destiny, you gave her genuine compassion, respect, a comfortable home and a loving family, how could anyone find fault there? I'm glad you were able to comfort Charlotte in her last moments. Hugs and deepest condolences to all who knew your beautiful girl.

Fly Free, Sweet Charlotte.

I am SO sorry to hear about your loss. I wish there were anything I could do or say, to ease your pain.

The only comfort I can give, is that Charlotte was a special bird, who now has 2 wings to fly in heaven, not just the one not taken by humans.

That is beautiful. Thank you.

oh man! Im very sorry to hear this!

any chance there was a heater that overheated and released toxic fumes? Do you use Teflon coated nonstick pans? candles or fragrance? What could have killed a parrot so quickly?! Maybe she fell and had a head injury? I'm anxious to see the doctors report!!

Take care of yourself. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do and terrible things happen. I hope you aren't beating yourself up over it

There are five other birds in the house and none of them have even the slightest hint of an issue, so I doubt there's anything environmental. We have no real idea what her history is. She could have been 70 years old for all we really knew. Plus who knows how rough her years previously really were, and what kind of long term effects that had. And with the missing wing her balance was bad, so there's a chance she fell, though MrC was in the next room over giving one on one time to another bird, and he didn't hear anything, nor has she fallen any time recently that we can think of. So we will just have to wait. I completely forgot yesterday was Saturday, and while my vet's office is open, he doesn't do surgery or these kinds of procedures that aren't emergencies on the weekends, so we have to wait until tomorrow.

I'll be thinking of you and Charlotte today, hoping Dr. J will set your mind at ease while you grieve the loss of an amazing companion.

She died from neck trauma. Her balance was always bad, so we had her cage set up to reduce the risk of falls, but we always knew she was at an increased risk no matter what we did. Her neck wasn't broken, so he hypothesized that she got her head stuck between a perch and the side of the cage, or a food bowl and the side, or she fell and hit the side of her neck on a perch on the way down (though she only had about six inches from her perches to the floor of the cage). She was also much older than we were told. Based on her internal organs, he estimated she was about 25, not the 11 we thought based on what we had been told.

We always worried about something like this because of her history and we did everything possible to reduce the risk, but it wasn't enough. I'm devastated.

Sorry, B. Thank you for taking such good care of her.

My deepest condolences, I can't possibly imagine your heartache.

The fact you were mindful of her balance and set up her cage to make it more comfortable tells me you did whatever you could to mitigate the risk, and her death was a horrible accident.

As the others have said here, you gave her a new lease at life and I bet she had a wonderful time in a home that loved her before it was time to go.

My thoughts are with you, your flock and your family.

Our common thread is the Parrots we choose to bring into our homes. Our common heartbreak is that they pass too soon! Because of their rarely known histories, we are left with the tests that our CAV's provide us of 'today's' health status, knowing deep in that dark corner of our minds that things could change in a moment.

With each loss, we are left with the pain and the deep cry as to why this lovely creature. Why now. S/he was getting better, has been doing well, been showing good test results. What did we miss? What error? What missed sign?

Our Avian Vet's share deeply in our pain, as they, more than anyone else, know the efforts made, the gains, the small win's. After all, they see death even more often. Plus, they see the stupid deaths far more often than our strong efforts at providing our dear Feathered Friends every additional hour we can. No death is easy, but ours are heartbreaking, since Science can only help gather a few additional hours.

After so many, I have come to take comfort when they can pass in our arms. Their knowing, we are there and they are not alone, but Deeply Loved!

Prays and Deep, Warm Feather Hugs My Dear Friend.....

Such a tragic loss, despite your absolutely resourceful efforts. I reminisced over your work with Charlotte from past threads; you gave her so much love and the best times of her life. So very sorry, Maggie.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know so well the experience of a seemingly healthy bird getting sick suddenly - it is an awful experience, and it by no means means you are a bad parrot owner. You clearly adore your parrots. You gave her a beautiful life. Sending love and light from our bird family to yours during this trying time.
