Hi guys I just picked up our Camelina Macaw today and I wanted to know if anyone has one as well? Hes a sweetheart now but I know the Scarlet in him makes him a high maintenance bird LOL Any pitfalls I should look out for?

Heres him during his introduction with Mac n Lola

Well you went for a fourth gen hybrid so expect some unexpected behavior. Hybrids in general have a hasty attitude and can be very over bonded to one person. This is even true-Er in these further out hybrids. I'd just teach some very strict ground rules and not let him walk all over you.

He is beautiful I look forward to hearing more about him or her:)

Thanks JT I did read that and am aware of their personality issues being hybrids. Worried about the Scarlet in him LOL

Well yeah and he has two years of scarlet correct? Camellia is a Catalina and a scarlet it is also called Camelot if I remember my hybrids lol. Yeah and I've met some nasty catalinas(not to scare you just saying). I do own two hybrids but I don't usually suggest them to new macaw people at All, but I think you'll do fine. As you've owned your other hybrid as well. Yeah Scarlets get a bad rep though I've met some ver friendly and gentle Scarlets it's all about how they are raised. She is still young enough to learn you and your rules s your fine.

Ok I'll correct myself because I just remember while messaging someone lol... Camelot and a Catalina make this correct:p? I did t even use the internet it just came to me... I hope I'm right now

Your Birds GORGEOUS:) I have a Catalina macaw and shes the sweetest bird.Shes never bit me ,lays in my arms [alot like Fargo]. Shes a pretty easy bird to own. The only other hybrids Ive been around have been Catalinas [and they have been similar] Its made me develop a great love for Macaws:) So of course I have a great opinion of them ,and wouldnt have a problem having other hybrids. I always wondered if hybrids chilled out their temperment . You will have to keep us updated cause I see you have 2 others and you can give your opinion:) Maybe other hybrid owners can share . Anyways again, hes Beautiful.

Hybrids are great IMO... I believe some macaw expirence or above the average owner expirence should be needed to own them for the most part. Epically if they are second homed parrots. I've met many hybrids including my two and they were all great but had the moments that they acted like exactly what they are which is a hybrid.(sitting with baby girl right now and she is being a cuddly greenwing, but this could change into playful blue And gold any moment).... That is how they are in my expirence. The emerald macaw I know is the same way one second she is all hy the next she turns into the military family traits.
These are just my expirences with them, they are great birds but just more commonly misunderstood I'd say.

Yes JT the Camelina is a Catalina with a Camelot. Plenty of Scarlet LOL. So far so good Hes younger than the others so hes more inclined to bond. I got my Harlequin and B & G together and they had been bonded prior to me getting them. They accept me but they arent as cuddly as this one is thus far. He steps up and hasnt nipped me...YET LOL

Ohhh!!! Beautiful colors!! He has a sweet face too...all of your birds are beautiful!

I've always had a soft spot for the hybrids. The yellowy orangey hues are soooo pretty. I think if I werent getting ready for my hy baby (in the next year or so), I'd consider bringing home a gorgeous fiddie like that....

Your Macaw color combo is excellent. Great looking birds. Now that I see them on those wood stands I think we will be ordering one...or two.

That's one very pretty bird! His beak looks a little small so I am guessing he is very young. I have both a Catalina and a Scarlet. My Catalina was my first bird which I got at age 4. He is now 15 and I will admit he was a real pistol in the beginning, but time has healed all things and he is now very playful and loving, but he and the Scarlet will NOT get along. Both the Scarlet and the Catalina will play nice with the B&G but these two strive against each other to be Alpha Male. This is my Catalina "Doogie":

Your bird is gorgeous! We are the proud owners of a Camelot macaw, Tiki. She has been a wonderful bird, and is very sweet. She can be beaky, as most scarlet macaws, but she does know when it's too hard. I do see the stress tendencies that others have mentioned. We have two kids, and most of the time, she's great with and around them, but when they get loud, she gets VERY loud. :) We hardly hear her most of the time, but she definitely reacts with the situation around the house. She's starting to say "Hello" and you can hear other words We had never owned a macaw before, so she is our first. We'd been going back and forth between her and a blue and gold, but after we met her, we just knew she was it. She's very friendly, and is ok with having others mess with her. She's currently about 11 months old, so she's still young, but so far, she's been perfect for us as first time owners. Good luck with your new addition. I've attached a pic of our Tiki. :)

Day two has gone smoothly :) Hes a sweetheart hasnt nipped at me once. Im sure once the kids get back things will change. We have 4 and my other two gt super loud when they are around and Im sure Sunny will follow suit LOL. Ive actually gained more confidence with Mac and he had one leg on me when he figured he could walk to his cage on his own LOL. Maybe tomorrow :) Your birds are beautiful by the way. Doogie looks a lot like my Mac who is a Harlequin. Have you guys purchased Manzanita from Burlwood? They have great prices and are advertised to make bird toys?

Very Nice Macaw! I also have a Catalina. And a Scarlet Before. I do see the scarlet Tude in Picasso (Catalina), but hey its a scarlet bloodline LOL. IMO if your baby is well I do mean well socialized...... You should have an amazing bird.

Oh My !! These are even better pictures [ It would be neat if he kept the yellow lines on his face] I was told they dont get their true coloring until their 3rd molt . So there might be some interesting looks yet to come. Can I ask where and who the breeder is ? Do they specialize in Camelinas? Ive never seen them.
