Cage Size for Eclectus

Hey guys,
I was wondering what is the appropriate cage size for an Eclectus (male). I know that the biggest cage possible is best but i would just like to know.

mine is slightly smaller---22x30 I think. I got a second cage that is same depth/width but twice as tall and truthfully for Wrangler it is wasted space. He doesnt ever go near the bottom of the cage or climb much below food bowl level. He does travel horizontally so the width/depth works well. 20x24's are too small unless it is a stack cage that they only sleep in. Its not appropriate for daily living.

One trick with cages (especially these bigger ones which can weight quite a bit, I think ours are over 40kgs) is to get really good castors for them. I went to a castor place and spent about $15 per wheel to get really good ones (2 with the brake, 2 without) and life dragging the cages in and out of the house is soooo much easier. Just be careful of the thread size because some are imperial and some are metric.

I agree with Coopedup - no need for tall cages. I got one of the biggest cages out there and the bottom of the cage is indeed a waste of space as it's never used. You could have some cabinet there for food and/or cleaning stuff and have the cage just sitting on it if you don't want to move it around.

Maxx uses all of his cage for play. 15 hanging toys at all levels and a couple of wiffel balls on the bottom and he uses all of the toys and travels the entire cage. with 6 birds and not many that can come out together I figure the bigger and more stuff to do the better.
since he only gets a few hours a day out.

yea you sure can't beat it to keep a happy bird, and I got lucky on the price and did not have to pay the 799.00 I had ordered a 36'' and it got put on back order so the folks that I deal with knew I needed the cage and they ate the difference. what a nice bunch of folks.

I should probably note that Wrangler is OUT of his cage for the majority of the day. It's rare for him to spend more than 6 hours in it except at night when sleeping (and lately he's been sleeping upstairs in our bedroom so--he's pretty pampered). He likes his cage, has full access to it when he's out, and sometimes goes in to nap. Ive considered downsizing his cage for space reasons, but only because he isnt "cooped up" --excuse the pun-- all that much.

Oh yeah one more thing,
Can u sleep with your parrot on the bed at night ?
What about when they need to poop and stuff.
I think that human saliva is dangerous to parrots and i drool sometimes so.
Can i still

No, you can never sleep with your parrot at night. While human saliva is indeed dangerous to parrots due to the Gram negative bacteria present in all mammalian fluids, that's actually the lesser danger in that scenario. People have been known to roll over their birds in their sleep, crushing or smothering them without realizing it.

Safest thing is to put them up in their cages at night.
