Cage cleaning time again....

I feel like I just cleaned my dirty birdies' cages. This is my least favorite task. I would rather clean the entire house top to bottom than clean cages.

It's not even time for a "good" cleaning. It's just the twice a week quick change of the papers. I think I hate this the most because I end up making a huge mess when I change papers and clean poo off bars. My birds love it. It means they get to come out of their cages and climb all over me (and scream in my ears) while I clean their messes up. I just know one of them is going to take a massive dump on the carpet again. It happens every time without fail. I take them out on normal days and nobody poops on the carpet or screams in my ears. I take them out on cage cleaning days and somebody makes more work for me while yelling at me. (normally Kayak... she is the master pooper)

Oh well. I guess I should stop delaying and go clean :'( I've been deathly ill for the last week and let the cages go. It was all I could do to feed and water myself plus them. They did keep me company while I flopped in bed reading. Of course they always wanted to steal my cough drops and they shredded my tissues before I even had a chance to blow my nose in them. Now I have just over a week of poo and food to clean up... not to mention the feathers all over because it's time for their seasonal molt. I feel like there are enough feathers on the floor and in their cages for more than just the 4 of them. It looks like 20 birds worth of feathers. I never realized they had so many feathers lol. Ughhhhh I'm dreading this.

Anybody else find this task enjoyable? Because I think you're sick in the head if you do. I find vacuuming enjoyable because I like seeing vacuum marks on the carpet... clean bird papers are only slightly rewarding and get trashed .2 seconds after the bird goes back in the cage.

Ok, ok, enough delaying. time to clean up after dirty birds.

Merlin's cage is due a good clean too and the budgies. I've been wiped out this past week so they've been neglected on the cleaning front ever so slightly. But they haven't spent a lot of time locked up so I guess it balances out

I only have 2 My canary Lucas and my Quaker sweetie pie, and I think that it is up on the list of not my favorite thing to due , However it is not as bad as ironing however4 I did find a way out of that years ago. I have hubby convinced that just the sight of one of those nasty inventions gives me a rash and that I am allergic to it. I also told that is why god invented permanet press and dryers. I don't think I could convince him to clean the birds since they were my idea to begin with. this morning he even shared his bowl of cereal with sweetie pie on the edge of his bowl. I just got done cleaning up their cages. Nobody pooped on the carpet... just on me.

My two budgies are the worst. The one is petrified of hands so when my hands go near her cage she flips out and flaps around sending feathers, food, and debris everywhere! The other budgie is so friendly so he spends the entire time torturing me and talking his head off while I attempt to clean his cage. If I ignore him he nips me on the side of my face like "hey, I was talking to you! Leave my food and poop alone and talk to me."

I love my birdies but I hate cage cleaning. Just like I love my kitties but I despise scooping litter (more so than cage cleaning)

I love vacuuming too! I thoroughly enjoy the sound of debris rattling up.


I wouldn't mind cleaning cages so much if I didn't have to clean dozens of bird cages at work every week, too. Fortunately we hired a dedicated animal care person and I haven't had to do that in a while, though. And my parrots are way less disgusting then zebra finches that eat pellets.

Do a clean every Saturday, takes me about 1 hour, change the paper, wash the grill and trays and wipe down the whole cage and toys, about every 4th week I take out all the toys and replace/swap them round this clean takes about 2 hours.
I plan on taking the cage outside and pressure washing it in the next couple off weeks, do this twice a year.

Yeah, the weather finally warmed up enough to do that. It's been raining every day I have off from work so I haven't had a chance to roll all the big cages out to hose them down.

I actually am a bit spoilt as hubby does the cage cleans. He usually does them on a sunday morning and once a month he takes the who cage outside and uses the high pressure hose.

I also have a cleaner who comes twice a week and Puffin is sooooo naughty! He sits on his perch and sweet talks her as she vaccums around his cage. She pulls the cage out and cleans behind it and as soon as she puts the cage back he flips himself upside down and flaps his wings and makes all the muck fly up over the clean floor....then he laughs! So she thought she would beat him at his own game and she emptied the tray before she started so Puff did his little ritual but there was no mess so not to be beaten, he hopped down to his seed bowl and flicked all the seed out! How naughty is that!

I got quite the visual reading your post, Custom, lol. Yikes, sounds hectic!

While I don't particularly enjoy cleaning out Guava's cage, I, too, am fond of vacuuming. I don't mind if some of the pellet leftovers spill onto the carpet while I'm cleaning, because I like hearing the sound of the debris rattling up when I vacuum afterwards. It's almost like a reward that I look forward to, lol.

I hate cleaning cages. Especially the CAG's, they're SO dusty. It doesn't usually take me very long though unless I'm taking the grills outside to hose. I spray it down with viniger/water and use a soft brush to do a quick scrub, then change papers. I'll use a damp, hot towel to wipe down the bars.

I don't mind cleaning cages, oddly enough. I'm just not motivated to do it as often as I should (someone here says they change papers daily, wow! I can't find that motivation due to the mess cleaning the liners does!). I like it because, at least for Loki, it means everything is moved around! A new toy (or an old one rotated back in), a new layout! It keeps him from boredom. My friend changes her Too's cage "layout" every other day, which just seems crazy to me!

I don't like the mess that comes with it cleaning it, but I'm thankful for a good vacuum as a result

Oh wow. I lack the motivation to change the layout of cages that often. They get changed around totally once a month. During the weekly cleaning I'll rotate out a toy or two.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys vacuuming, lol. I love the sound of stuff getting sucked up and I LOVE the new bagless vacuum I just got. I enjoy watching the stuff being picked up off the carpet and swirling around. I've got 4 cats aside from the birds so I've always got to run the vacuum. I'm currently looking at the black cat shaped fur mark on the carpet and thinking how I really should vacuum it up. I hate shedding/molting season.

Yeah, once a week, a full layout change. I totally forgot that Sugar is still adjusting and did hers when I cleaned her cage and I totally threw her off. Problem is, when I do the weekly cleanings, I wipe the whole cage down with a wet rag, so I have to remove the toys and such. Since I can never remember exactly how I had something, it's easier to just change the layout. Not sure what I'm going to do about Sugar and her cage, because she sits on top of her cage a lot and obviously poops up there :-/

I think after the move, we need to get her a cage with a playstand on top. She doesn't like sleeping inside her cage; when we try to get her to do that, she wakes us up every few hours. When we let her sleep on top of her cage or on the cage door, everyone gets a full nights sleep

YESSSSS!!!! THAT'S THE SAME ONE I HAVE!!! That's the only complaint I have too! Annnnnnd I wish the hose was longer. I always end up pulling the vacuum down on top of me

Mmm... makes me thankful for my Dyson I've never had the problem of the vacuum falling down on me It's got a ton of attachments and an extra long handle/hose. AND I get to watch the dirt come up and get the satisfaction of seeing the dirt spin around. (sorry, that's all the bragging I'll do, I promise!)

Just finished changing papers and vacuuming. Took me all of ten minutes for two cages. Not fun, as I like the weekly wiping down and rearranging. Yes, I'm weird.
