bump on face

My blue and gold has a pea size soft bump on the white portion of her cheek. It is not causing her any pain. She is eating and playing and loving on me as usual. The bump is the same color as the white skin on her face. It looks like it is underneath the skin? She has an appoint at her vet office Monday. Have you ever seen anything like this? I am worried.

Interesting that you should post this. I just went through this myself. Let me ask if you have introduced anything new into your bird's life? Food? Toys? I believe it's an allergic reaction. Merlin had a bump which sounds exactly like yours. I started my bird on a new pellet and introduced a new wooden toy. I removed the toy and stopped giving the new pellets. The bump is almost gone.

You may be right! I tried different fruit pellets after the Zupreem recall! I wonder if this is what did it! How long has your baby had the bump?

Are there any of the small facial feathers in the area? Could it be an ingrown feather? I recently spoke to someone who's vet confirmed that birds can get them.

I thought of that, too. The bump is about 1 inch below the bottom line of black feathers on her face. No feathers around, just her white, soft skin.

That's exactly where Merlin's lump was. Merlin had the toy for about a week and the pellets maybe a little longer.

If everything is the same except for changing the food, it's most likely allergies. Here is a picture that somebody else posted. Merlin only had one.

It took about a month for it to go away which is normal. It takes about 6-8 weeks for an allergen to get out of the system.

Which pellets were introduced and for how long? Just curious because I went from Zupreme Fruit Blend to Zupreme Veggie Blend. I am going to wait a bit longer and reintroduce the food. If it occurs again, I know for sure it is an allergy, then I will be calling the manufacturer.

That is exactly what hers looks like it! Same spot! She only has one and it is smaller than that one in the pic. We bought a bag of Kay-tee fruit pellets from Petsmart because they yanked all of the fruit zupreem off of the shelf during the recall. I hope it is just an allergy! She is like a child to me and I will be devastated if it is something bad!

Somebody on this or another forum said these type of lumps are common and should go away over time. I monitored the lump daily for a week and noticed it was becoming smaller so I didn't make a trip to the vet. I don't think anything can be given for this.

Thank you Jersey Wendy for the pictures! It does look like that! Exactly like it to be exact! Only my baby has one bump and is smaller than the one in the pic! Merlee, I sure hope it is just an allergy! You have eased my mind! I am anxious about what the vet says Monday. I am going to get a picture and post it on here.

alleycat39402: FWIW, many years ago my B&G, Jack, had a bump that looked identical to the one in your photo. It was the same size but it was on the skin between his nares, not on his lower facial skin. It lasted for a couple of weeks and then began to shrink. It vanished completely and he's never had another one. Just thought I'd mention it.

No, because I didn't have an avian vet at the time since there were none in my area. I was in the process of trying to locate one when the bump started to decrease in size. This was over 20 years ago, by the way.

Greetings everyone!! We just got back from Metairie! Dr Pence saw Gryffin today. She thinks it could be an insect bite or she may have bumped her face playing with her toys. She gave her an anti-inflammatory medication and some Vit A. She is going to call me Friday and check on her. If she it has gotten worse by then, they may have to do a biopsy! She didn't seem to concerned about it, so that made me feel better!
Prayers this thing goes away and my baby girl is ok!! Thank you to everyone who has checked on her!!
