I managed to hatch a Green-Cheeked Conures chick that was abandoned by the mother. I've been doing a lot of research about baby care since the mom laid her eggs, but I wasn't all that prepared to raise it myself (w/ no help from mother bird), so I'm hoping to get tips about raising it. It hatched early this morning (Jan-16-2024)
I currently have it in a plastic box, I bought a 250W heating lamp, a small humidifier, aspen shavings, and a gauge that tells temp and humidity.
I've heard the temp needs to be around 90-100°f, and humidity 50-60%? I can't seem to get the humidity over 40% without the whole box getting misty. It looked like it was starting to shiver when it was misty, even though the temp was ok.
I've also tried feeding it (Tropican brand) Hand-Feeding Formula, but it doesn't seem at all interested in eating. (guessing it because it's not even a day old yet)
Am I doing anything wrong, and is there anything else I should be doing?
I am also streaming the chick on my Twitch, letting me know if it's body language is good would also be much appreciated!
pics of setup & gauge, non misty & misty.
