Broken nail

My green cheek conure was sitting on my door and I didn't notice, I closed the door with slight force and I heard him scream. I saw his toenail and it looked relatively fine, it had a little drop of blood in the middle though. It wasn't bleeding badly, and he seemed okay. I don't have any medication for this kind of thing so I cut off a very very tiny piece of band-aid and wrapped it around the toenail. He's not picking at it, and seems to be okay. He sits on one foot but is running and jumping around his cage like normal, so it seems he's okay. I just want to know if what I did was the correct thing to do.

If it keeps bleeding dip in flour or corn starch.

Poor guy . If it keeps bleeding after 24 hours you should take him to the vet as he could get an infection. If he is not bleeding then i would not worry as in two weeks or so the nail will have grown out and he will get better. Good luck.

If you haven't, I'd run some hydrogen peroxide over it and then run it under water (peroxide leaves no dangerous residue a bird could ingest like other disinfectants). Just to keep it clean. Otherwise, not much else you can do when these types of minor injuries occur with a bird. It's just like if you scraped your knee or closed a finger in the door. Painful but not particularly dangerous.

Keep it clean and watch for any additional bleeding. Accidents happen! Make sure to keep his cage and perches meticulously clean for the next couple of days to help prevent infection.
