Who woulda thought? But seriously - who would've thought that Shiko would try his darn tooting hardest to impress Avery? You know, the bird that when first introduced to her quite literally bit her on the butt? And chased her off her own cage? And tried to fly to my shoulder to attack her out of jealousy?

Well, apparently after enough coaching from his non-feathered mommy about how to be a GOOD boy and impress the ladies (especially his mommy :54:), he picked up a thing or two about how to be nice and not yank out the feathers on the girls that he likes. I honestly couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it happen for the first time... I recently build a tree stand for the birds and I decided to let them both play on it and explore, but I've always be apprehensive of letting them out together because Shiko has tried to attack Avery countless times out of jealousy. But I thought it would be good to see how they interact on neutral ground, and I'm glad that I did! If you've never seen an IRN display, it's quite honestly the most hilarious thing. They puff out their chest, make their wings look like a heart, and spew as much nonsense as possible to impress. And that's exactly what Shiko did to try and impress my little girl Avery!

When I told my boyfriend he didn't believe me, but yesterday he did the SAME thing - and, get this - he even tried to REGURGITATE for her! Ironically, Avery always wanted to preen and be close to Shiko when she first met him. Now she can't stand the big blue fellow and his boyish quirks and immature behaviour, and this poor guy can't get enough of her! Rejection hurts, huh poor boy?

Here's a minute or so long video of the process.... I laugh every time I watch it, haha!

Chantal, I love the video, thanks for sharing. Shiko is stunning even though Avery obviously couldn't figure out why he was making such a fool of himself. Avery is adorable, backing away and running to a safe shoulder.

Thanks Allee! Shiko and Avery puffed out their feathers while soaking in the compliments. It's just so funny because he had this on/off switch. On the tree stand, he's all about love. On the cat tree or cages, he sees red. Flock dynamics are certainly an entertaining thing :p
