Hello everyone I bought an 8 week old blue Wing macaw.
I'm still waiting on the DNA results to come back so I don't know if it's a boy or a girl but I call "him" Paco. I wasn't aware that unweaned babies were frowned upon until I found this forum but I can't do anything about that now so he is still hand feeding. My problem is after I feed him and try to spend time with him he cries but if I put him in his cage he stops crying. does anyone know why he does this? he's very cuddly and loves to be near me but always cries when he's with me. like I said this is right after I feed him. right now he is getting fed 40 ml twice a day. Sometimes in the evening he will try to mimic me and make cooing noises but mostly during the day he just squawks like a baby

Do you mean Greenwing? There is no blue-wing macaw, but there are blue and golds and greenwings. Hybrids of the two are called Harlequin macaws.

Be sure to read this link...

So you bought an unweaned baby....

Is the temperature of the formula correct, as in 100-110 degrees F? Is he being fed the appropriate amount, roughly 10-12% of his weight per feeding?

He may feel safer inside his cage, but he should be getting lots of socialization from you during this time.

Blue winged macaw is an official English name of Illiger's macaw (as Jshiz mentioned)
