I spoke to a breeder who claims to have Blue Front Amazon/Orange wing amazon hybrid babies. I guess they can hybridize them like most other species. I just never heard of it before. Have any of you?

Thanks,
Mike

Hey Mike we have feral flocks of them south of you.Sure it's not "wild"

I'd keep them away from my pets until i had them Vet checked, fecal and all. They maybe be handfeed, tame and all that but what if they're wild birds?

I sure hope there wild birds. (not saying wild birds are good)
I do not agree with the practice of hybridizing.
Here in la people nest rob way to much. Thats why Cali
Has so many Mex red head amazons. As well mitred conure. We have a few flocks out here and people are just sick.

I am amazed at the number of Quaker Parrots which live in the Bronx New York.

They claim they have been wild there since the 70's but when I grew up there, we NEVER saw a parrot...ever.

Now there are huge breeding colonies around the Little League field I grew up playing on.

Here are some links about them...pretty cool.

Yea it is. I haven seen any this year yet. I'm keeping an eye out.
I just wish they put a law on nest robbing. I enjoy our wild flocks.
Lil piece of south america in north. Sheesh we already made our only native parrots go extinct (carolina conure and Louisiana conure).

This is one of the reasons Quakers or Monk parakeets are banned in some states. This is what can happen with irresponsible pet owners and one of the reasons I advocate wing clipping. These birds aren't a native species.

I agree with you whole heartedly IF THEY ARE NATIVE TO THAT AREA. The problem is they aren't. If they were, there are already laws on the books to protect native species.

When you have a non-native animal move in, there are all kinds of problem issues that occurs. Look at the killer bee problem that should have never happened. But it did and these were scientist. Also not to mention the large snake problem down south around the keys and heading up here.

There's always a problem when we mess w/mother nature. But RCA is endangered in their native habitat. I'm glad that they are so adaptable, it would be a crime to loose another species.

Mike, I agree with you whole heartedly. My comment was more about my surprise with the situation than excitement in seeing parrots in the Bronx. I find it remarkable that these little birds adapted to what one would consider a most inhospitable environments for a parrot to thrive.

Tony, I think that is why they are one of the few that are banned in some states is that they tend to thrive more so than other species. A very unusual bird for sure.

I know when I lived in Florida i saw wild quaker parrot flocks all the time fly over my house and I heard them and so did my quaker and he would go crazy hearing them .I think that would be great to see wild amazons in L. A. .

Yea it is. I haven observed any this yr yet. I'm preserving an eyesight out.
I just wish they place a law on nest robbing. I appreciate our wild flocks

See people do not know about the parrot in la. THe mitreds and red throated and few other CONURES were released In Pasadena avairy fire. (zoo)
I forgot what happened as for the amazons. There coming from Mexico. Which MEXICAN red heads are from. As lilac crowned too. People release there pets yes. Stupid I know. Butthe amazon flocks derived from Mexico. Which means there native. There fore law should protect there kind. They WILL NOT go anyfurther than Los angeles. Southern la acually. I live up here in lawndale Hawthorne area and no wild flocks excist. They can only thrive in that area. As for the keys. Those zons are there problem. I belive they should leave em. But other feel diffrent which is great.
As for the python problem. That's a joke and a complete mistake that coulda been prevented. I own a cloumbian rainbow boa and corn snakes. I'm a huge snake lover.
But how those pythons got there is shere irresponable owners. And another fire. and illegal exports gone bad.
Snakes lay 20-30 eggs and about 15 babies hatch getting to size in 1 year. (5feet).
Not like parrots. I feel bad for south flordia. Snake problem is a huge problem. I watch python hunters lol.
As for la. Leave our birds alone haha. The zons for the most part are technically speaking 'native'.

What I'm saying is the flordia problem is man originated as for calis amazon flocks are not. Conures yes. Here a huge illegle export goin on in flordia. And lead most to be caught and then the perps release them into the keys. Just an opinion

Yes and no, in south Florida, the Python and large snake problem has a lot to do with the hurricanes that hit down there causing quite a few species to accidentally get released. But yep, irresponsible pet owners also contribute to that as well. Like their pet Amazon flying out an open door. All it takes is a few to start a flock.

Now as far as California goes, I'm sure if the state felt that those amazons were native to that area, I'm sure they would be protected. But it seems that they don't feel California is part of Mexico. California goes a bit over board at times for conservation.

That doesn matter weather it is or isint. No offense but your a bird lover right?
These flocks are NATIVE to southern California now. We have an extreamln ignoate mayor and city. San Francisco has wild blue crowns and cherry heads. Protected by the county.
And those are not native. As for southern California these flocks expanded there natrual habitat. Who are we to decide they don't belong. We invaded them. Not the other way around. Fact is there no captive blood in them. And my fault hurricane Andrew was the lead cause in flordia. Sorry forgot about that. Hahah. Idk how.

Its like saying the sun conure is native to paru. A county in south America. It expands to brazil. It's non native county. What do you do. Get rid of em. Punish an endangered species for increasing there numbers. Same with the zons. Were NORTH AMERICA there native continent Don't matter if were not part of Mexico. The birds are expanding there habitat a little further. And your saying stop them haha.
Green cheek zons and lilacs are a north American species. And I belive were north America. We have an ingrate culture. And this PROOVES it

I'm a bird lover, but I'm also practical. If they were classified as native species, they would surely be protected. But they aren't. The only way to change that is contact your state representative.

I also love going fishing as well, but do I think they should protect striper bass and chinese carp that have been introduced to the lakes and are not native species? Nope. Now will they eventually include them into the native fishery bag limit years from now. Yep, because once a species has been introduced and left alone long enough, they will surely become a native species given enough time. Hopefully that will happen to your California parrots.
