Hello everyone! I have a baby girl blue and gold macaw. She just turned 5 months on Nov. 5. I really need some advice. She is still being fed with formula pellets. She does nibble on some zupreem. I give her some fresh fruits and veggies, but she still screams for her hand feedings three times a day. Is this normal considering her age? I really need some advice.

Well, I got two caiques in May and they were only 4 months old. One of them screamed for formula all night, so we took her back the next morning and we got some formula to feed he for about 3 days. She never screamed for it after that. I had a feeling she wasn't all the way weaned.

With that being said, is there a way you can contact her breeder or where ever you got her from and ask for some formula to feed her periodically for a little while? Macaws might take longer to wean than caiques, I'm not sure.

Thank you for replying Tsift. She still takes formula in pellet form. I just don't know how long she needs to be on those.

My macaw took the previous owner 9 months to wean....
