- I now have a young Hahn's macaw. I used to have a Pacific Parrotlet that lived until almost 15. Before that I had a budgie.
I have a couple of questions about making "birdie muffins". For one thing, I'm looking for a recipe that my Hahn's macaw (a medium-sized parrot) will really enjoy eating. I'm not sure if there is any spot on this website that includes such recipes, if so, can someone direct me to them?
I looked for some birdie muffin recipes online, and was surprised to find most include refined sugars, either as an ingredient, or as a part of cornbread mixes. Kind of what seems like a lot. Is this OK? I was thinking that the only sugars should be from things like fruit (banana, raisins, apple sauce, blueberries, etc.) I even saw some recipes with cheese. I have never given my current or past parrots cheese.
I want to specifically make muffins because Tuesday is my little guy's 1st birthday. I want him to have a birthday muffin, with leftovers for other times. I have made him birdie "cookies", but he never really liked them that much, and it just doesn't look as much like a birthday cake.
