I see the two natural wood pieces now. How strange :D

I just bought the Prevue Hendryx Parrot Stairs play gym. I got it at a local Petland for only 40 bucks, but I saw the same one on Amazon for around the same price maybe a bit more.

It's only Mookie's first day with it, but so far it's been pretty nice. Great size for a Grey.

I have seen stands and playtops that would work in theory, but I'm really set on natural perches and not the metal or dowel rods. It's really for his foot health and to get him away from his cage (he's terrified of natural perches in his cage). He still treats perches that have been in his cage for months like the plague.

Maybe look into using an actual tree? My friend has one for his M2, and it works great!! We're in Australia, so he used a Gumtree (but I'm sure you could find another sturdy tree!!). I built it with him, and it was very, very simple. Next to no construction required - and all natural wood!!

We found a small Gumtree (this one was in our neighbour's backyard, don't worry, we asked!) and we used a saw to cut it off at the base. After we had that done, we used screws to screw it to the bottom of a wheeled platform (I'm not sure what they're called). I got my friend to do this, I'm not great with tools.

(you could very well sand this perch down so it's more comfortable for Zoey's feet here)

Once the tree was on the stand, we disinfected it with a mix of vinegar, bird safe disinfectant and water. We kept on disinfecting it for three days, twice a day, as we didn't want to leave anything behind. We got the M2 on it, she loves it! While a M2 is not really the size if an African Grey, some adjustments could be made.

We use these sorts home made stands at the shelter all the time!! Just because it's not Java/Manzanita wood, doesn't mean it's not going to last. Good luck with your stand finding, and sending my best wishes to both you and all your birds!

You can always make one out of PVC and then cover it with natural rope, vet wrap, burlap material, etc... That way you can get several different sizes of "branches" and multiple types of material for the bird to destruct. Once the wrapping gets torn up enough you just replace what needs replaced.
