Indian Ring Neck
Hello,

I'm wondering if it is cruel to our Indian Ringneck, to bring a Bearded Dragon into the family.

I hope I won't be scolded for asking, and I thank you for your feedback.

If they are housed separately and maybe in a different room - I don’t see why you couldn’t. I think a few members here have reptiles. Are you concerned your ringneck will think the breastfed dragon will eat him/her?

Thanks for the reply Littleredbeak. I guess my concern is that the ringneck could be intimidated by the new addition and will be stressed...or vice versa.

Do you plan on keeping them in the same room? Some one mentioned on here when you have other pets with birds you need to be careful of not cross contaminating bacteria- if you touch the cat or dog wash your hands before handling the birds/bird related things.

We have a member here , Riddick, who keeps snakes, tarantulas and all sorts of reptiles, and a nice B&G macaw. I would look him up and chat with him about reptiles and birds.

Not a bearded dragon, but my first snake I kept we got from a pet shop who basically gave away this beautiful Boa Constrictor, because he had gotten loose in the shop and ate a $1000 cockatoo. Which it promptly threw up when I got it home. Beardies I dont think get big enough to eat a bird the size of a ring neck, but....
Most parrots and birds really don't like snakes instinctually. Lizards? Sorry, I dont know.

I would search for a thread by Riddick and add your question to the thread. New members have to have 20 posts before they can use the IM feature on the board.

We have always had beardies! At times, as many as 50+! Never a problem for the bird, but once they see the live feed insects, they will have a new hangout! Obviously, you will need the cage covered, even when the dragon is out!

It sounds like the "exotic combo" of lizards and birds is not that unusual, and can work if/when being conscientious about the pets' happiness and safety. Thank you for the responses.

Oh goodness, you should never be scolded for seeking information, that's why we are here!

As Al (wrench13) suggested, Victoria (riddick07) has a mix of parrots and exotic critters. She visits periodically and might see your question. You now have enough posts to use the PM system, feel free to send her an inquiry: http://www.parrotforums.com/members/10491-riddick07.html

No problems with Beardy's and birds, in fact I used to keep mine in with a pair of King Quails together for 7 years without any issues. My only concern would be the ringneck biting the Beardy's tails
