Beak damage, is this anything to worry about?

Mable as described in other posts does not wish to step up or have much interaction with people so she often flies off the cage top or play gym straight into a wall if we even attempt or ask.

She hit pretty hard last week and a section of outer layer of her beak actually chipped off. I’ve heard that this can happen and isn’t a huge deal but now shes got another crack above the first area that chipped off and Im probably paranoid but wonderer if anyone thought this should require vet attention.

From what i can tell from the pictures it looks like normal shedding. Beaks grow constantly and shed of in layers.
Like this for example.

Yes I’ve seen similar wear in my IRN beak but I had just never seen this occur after bumping into something really hard so I wasn’t sure. I have now padded many walls in the bird room to allow her a softer impact when she does this.

Shes going in to the vet this weekend anyhow for nail trimming check up so I’ll have them take a closer look. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything that needed urgent or immediate attention.

If she cracked her beak flying into a wall, I'm surprised she didn't knock herself out! The current thread about plastics says how strong a Grey's beak is. If they can chip plexiglass or Lexan with their beak, wouldn't they get a head injury or broken neck hitting the wall hard enough to crack said beak?

I would agree. I wasn’t aware until recently that they could chip their beaks flying into stuff. I also watch this bird absolutely shred wooden toys all day, everyday. The floor under the cage by the end of the day appears as if Im housing a small wood chipper inside.

My U2 broke a corner off his lower mandible opening an almond. Was all set to see the vet the next day. We all woke up the next morning and he had apparently reshaped his beak so the two lower points were now even if a little shorter. How he managed that I have no idea. Didn't bother with the vet and all was well.
