:DHenpecked to answer yoyr question ,when I lived up in Mass. I had ducks, geese, chickens. I used to raise Silkies, Millie Fleurs, Polish ,as wells as some of the bigger chickens for eggs . WE had the best tasting eggs because I let them wander around the yard and eat all the bugs they wanted. I forgot we also had some ginnea hens too . One of my favorite things to do was give them a big bowl of leftover mashed potatoe then watch them run around like grandfather christmas with their white beards. eventually the cyoties and foxes took up residence and we had a couple of massacures both in and out of the coops and pens so we donated them to a state school farming department because I did not feel I could keep them safe. A few years later the kids next door decided to get bantums so I gave them my books on chickens. they got an assortment and for the most part let them run free. we had 2 acers they had 7 acers so I ended up again with all the fun of watching them in my yard without having to clean coops or feed them. and I could watch each new generation .Fun

Oh my word! They are just too cute! Animals just has a way of melting my heart!

We have 5 acres that the chickens can roam, we also have 8 laying hens and a rooster. Plus the 2 turkeys. Oh and we did have 7 pheasants ,down to 3 this AM. Fried pheasant for dinner, yum, yum. We too have issues with coons, hawks, owls, eagles, coyotes, bobcats, snakes etc. so we pen them at night . We got a "guard dog" from the pound who along with our 3 JRTs help police things around here.LOL

we now live in a deed restricted community, Rotonda West Fla. so it is not an option anymore. I am up to three parrots one canary and two elderly minpins. I think I am at my limit at this point. At least now I get to watch the flocks of Ibis running around foraging and it is almost like having chickens again.:D
