baked beans?

I'd vote no. Beans are great plain, but baked beans, especially commercially produced, are loaded with salt, sugar, and who knows what else that could be harmful for birds.

If I were to feed them to the birds, I would wash them thoroughly first to eliminate any sugar, salt, etc. that is on them.

The thing is, I have a bunch of these 8oz. cans in my pantry that brother Jim bought, and I don't ever recall him eating them. There are also small cans of veggies (beans, peas, and corn) and fruit that I know for a fact he fed to the birds (as I still am). It is of course possible that Jim was a closet bean freak that I wasn't aware of, but I kinda doubt it.

Closet bean freak might be the funniest thing Iā€™ve read this morning!

Generally yeah, baked beans arenā€™t a great idea; even if theyā€™re rinsed they have been soaking in that stuff so itā€™s still gonna have some salt/sugar/etc on ā€˜em. Most of them have dehydrated onion and garlic, both of which are bad for birds.

I donā€™t suppose your nephew would eat them? lol! Or maybe you could have someone take them next time they come by and donate them to a food pantry?

That won't be necessary. I happen to love baked beans, so if these aren't destined to be bird food they're gonna become my lunch.:D
