Hi there! These are my budgies, Bailey & Benji ! (left is bailey, right is benji) Bailey was my first ever bird - now about 4 1/2 roughly. Benji is about 3 1/2 now (and he was a lil baby when I took him home omg)

Bailey was from a petsmart and very afraid of the world -- he is now quite the chaotic little dude. He loves Benji, took very well to shredding paper -- and is comfortable with me. He also occasionally enjoys jumping on my head (photo included below) or playing at my desk. ("He" is also a girl, but I didn't know that for.. at least the first two years, so "she" is still a "he" except for medical purposes.)

Benji is an interesting case, he came to me from a pet store as well but was always very comfortable and friendly - he also came to me as nearly a baby. He was adorable! (still is, but pictures of baby him below) What I did not originally know was that Benj' is partially blind. A lot of people "aw, no" at that -- but he really lives a good life, nearest to I can figure. He enjoy sitting on rope perches more than anything (I wrap mine in vet tape, he doesn't seem to like regular wood... he won't sit on it. Nothing wrong w/his feet.) and prefers bright colors in his cage (I think they're easier to see.) He also likes gnawing at seagrass mats I put in there. He also gets flying time inside of soft, enclosed little tents.

They live seperate, due to some territory / bailey is TOO forthcoming / issues, and having a smaller/shorter cage (Its 30x18x18) is better for Benji, too! You can see their cages below :)

I also keep them under my loft bed, and although Bailey will fly anywhere - it gives them their own area. Excited to be on here and talk to some fellow bird folks!

Very cute budgies! Do you realize that Bailey is a girl? Her cere (where the nostrils are) is whitish tan in females snd bright blue in matirr msles. enji is a boy.

Oops! My budgie did it! Yes, Bailey is a female and Benji is male. It's probably best that they have separate cages so they don't get any ideas to start a family.

You and your cuties are welcome. There's lots of budgie folk here. So if the deed is done you'll have plenty of advice!

Hi! Sorry I meant to reply to this thread yesterday, but yes!! I always forget to mention it in posts, but I learnt Bailey was a girl after I had him for about a year -- I just never took to using "she" for the little one. They do live separately due to some territory issues + Bailey lives in a large yaheetech and has for almost 5 years, Benji needed something shorter due to his vision issues.
I appreciate all the concern though, haha!

i'm not sure if it worked in the original but here's a shot of their cages lol, I have to admit I'm pretty proud of how their setup is today.

So cute! Welcome to you, Bailey, and Benji! Benji’s pied coloring reminds me of my late pied budgie, Gregory Peck. He was a more mellow bird too. Beautiful little birds ❤️

I know a bird named Gregory Peck! He lives in my sister-in-law's back yard in Tampa.

I have had that happen many times with a budgie's sex. My baby Rocky that I hand raised was named Rocky the day she hatched because my husband was somehow convinced Rocky was a boy. Four months later it became apparent that Rocky was a girl but the name stuck because she's one tough alpha bird. She's super bonded to us and is happiest sitting on us but hates hands! As long as you know Bailey's a girl with egg laying potential it doesn't matter what you call him.

All of these stories of similar birds is just awesome -- Bailey has always been a tough bird too, and prefers arms over hands also!! Just funny. I do call "him" a girl for any medical purposes, so we are all good here :) haha
